Operational Risk Management Overview

Operational Risk Management (ORM) is an independent Second Line of Defence oversight function that proactively identifies, assesses and oversees the mitigation of Operational Risks. The Corporate & Investment Bank (CIB) ORM team is responsible for independently assessing, reviewing and overseeing the management of Operational Risk by the Lines of Business (LOB) and Functional Groups within the CIB. The successful candidate will join a team of risk management professionals from a diverse range of backgrounds and experience who collectively ensure that the Firm's Operational Risk Management Framework (ORMF) is implemented and functions effectively within the CIB.

The CIB ORM team responsibilities
• Provide independent credible challenge on the identification, assessment, measurement, mitigation and monitoring of operational risks through continuous monitoring with participation in relevant control forums and operating committees, monitoring of operational risk events, KRIs/KPIs and through conducting deep dives and targeted risk assessments.
• Challenge business risk profiles where the residual risk levels are deemed to exceed the operational risk appetite for the business
• Promote and instil a strong culture of Operational Risk Management (ORM).
• Participate in the development, update and monitoring of operational risk scenarios
• Work with the business to continually improve operational risk process and business operating models supporting safe business growth and informing risk-based decision making
• Work closely with Businesses and Business Control Managers to ensure the Operational Risk Management Framework (ORMF) is communicated, understood and applied across LOBs and Functions in each location
• Work closely with regional and global ORMs to ensure connectivity from location to global and vice versa on operational risk matters and priorities.
• Stay abreast of industry news and regulatory developments to provide credible challenge to risk identification and mitigation. Review external operational risk events that occur in the industry.
• Drive/participate in business, regional and global risk management initiatives.
• Liaise with regulators in respect of Operational Risk matters
• Promote cross-LOB/Function consistency and adoption of best practice

Specific Role responsibilities

The successful candidate will have ORM coverage responsibilities of the APAC Treasury Services (TS) business across Cash Management, Liquidity and Escrow Services.

Key responsibilities include:

• Act as point of expertise advising business, other functional groups and local stakeholders on ORMF and all other operational risk related matters
• Provide independent credible challenge on operational risk related matters
• Conduct reviews on new business initiatives and new service/ product capabilities.
• Oversight of all operational risk matters including analyzing operational risk management information in partnership with the broader ORM team for business activities.
• Stay closely aligned to and the TS business strategy
• Work closely with control functions such as Compliance, Internal Audit and Oversight and Control and business stakeholders

Skills & Qualifications

• Financial services background, with at least 7 years' experience in the industry
• A motivated and experienced professional seeking the opportunity to join a rapidly developing Operational Risk function within the broader CIB Risk team
• Strategic thinker with strong analytical and project management skills
• A strong risk and controls mind-set, excellent operational, management and coordination skills
• Strong attention to detail and a desire to build a robust, flexible, sustainable structure around new and undefined processes
• Ability to operate independently and have the confidence to make balanced decisions, credibly challenge and effectively represent JPM
• Possess excellent interpersonal, communication and influencing skills with global colleagues and business counterparts at all levels of seniority across geographies
• Ability to build strong relationships with key stakeholders
• Detailed knowledge of Treasury Services products will be an advantage as will previous Risk and/or audit experience
