The primary purpose of this role, with a leading NSW Government department, is to collect, analyse and investigate financial data and produce high quality financial reports to support sound financial decision making.
Key accountabilities
- Analyse and prepare financial statements ensuring that they are produced within statutory time frames and comply with all applicable Australian Accounting Standards
- Review and check the governance of financial services activities to ensure existing accounting policies are consistent, remain relevant and comply with current accounting standards, work processes and controls.
- Guide and undertake the monthly, half-yearly and annual close-off, ensuring accruals and period-end journals have been processed correctly within agreed time frames.
- Ensure the appropriate financial reconciliations are undertaken to include review of the General Ledger Balance Sheet, the bank reconciliation and maintenance of fixed asset registers, with the proper recording / custody of physical assets in line with policy standards, accounting, reporting, stocktaking and revaluation of assets.
- Provide a key point of contact with internal and external auditors
- Respond to financial inquiries by gathering, analysing, summarising and interpreting data to ensure that the matters raised are handled
Essential requirements
- Qualified Chartered Accountant or Certified Practising Accountant
- Experience gained working in the Insurance industry will be highly regarded
