The Customer Service/Domestic Violence Division of the Anchorage Trial Court is accepting applications for a Deputy Clerk III. The successful applicant will review domestic violence documents to determine compliance with applicable court rules, statutes, and local procedures and will also perform in-court duties for domestic violence hearings held before Magistrate Judges. Regular job duties will include the following. These may be reassigned within the division based on business requirements. IN-COURT Set up, organize and maintain the courtroom, including operation and testing of a variety of equipment; troubleshoot and correct equipment problems whenever possible; Prepare and organize case files and paperwork for court proceedings; coordinate movement of litigants and other personnel in and out of court and expedite the flow of courtroom events; Call court to order and administer oaths; Log court proceedings using established procedures and practices; generate clear, consistent, and accurate record of proceedings; Identify, mark, and maintain exhibits submitted in court; Complete log notes, store or dispose of exhibits, and properly complete and close other records and documents upon completion of court proceedings; Enter case disposition in CourtView; Assist in the training of new employees; train as necessary on new equipment and procedures. CASE PROCESSING Process domestic violence case files, including documents which include motions; Ensure motions are accompanied by all necessary supporting documents, including certificate or affidavits of service and proposed orders, and that all documents are signed and affidavits are notarized; Notify counsel, agencies or pro se litigants in a timely manner of any deficiencies discovered, citing the appropriate rule or statute as needed; Perform other duties as may be assigned. Experience dealing with high-priority, confidential, or sensitive information. Experience providing excellent customer service. Experience applying rules and regulations when processing documents. Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment and establish priorities. Full-time court employees are currently scheduled to work 36 hours per week. The regular work hours for this position are Monday through Thursday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.; Friday 8:00 a.m. to noon. Minimum Qualifications Graduation from high school or completion of a General Education Development (GED) certificate AND one year of office clerical experience AND the ability to type at least 40 words per minute (net). Substitution: Additional office clerical work experience will substitute for the high school diploma or GED certificate on a month-for-month basis. Completion of 36 semester credit hours or 48 quarter credit hours of coursework from an accredited college will substitute for the year of required office clerical experience. Completion of an appropriate vocational training course of study such as legal secretary, paralegal, or office skills will substitute for the required office clerical experience on a month-for-month basis.
