Job Description: At Regions the Risk Management Portfolio Manager is a role that develops and executes on strategic priorities relative to credit risk rating initiatives. The Manager provides a high level of direction as Regions continues its evolution in adopting an Internal Ratings Based approach to credit risk ratings. The Manager determines and executes upon tactical activities related to the Design, Build, Implementation, and Maintenance of a two dimensional credit risk rating methodology. Primary Responsibilities Leads and directs the team which designs and executes on project plans to build or improve risk rating tools and processes, including probability of default risk rating models and loss given default models Provides subject matter expertise guidance and direction to business analysts who lead design group meetings Ensures that appropriate solutions are determined, work efforts are assigned and tracked, and project plans are updated as the project evolves through successful conclusion More than one project may be ongoing at any one time and the Manager actively participates in the process Owns risk rating tools, processes, and policy and works to make them better In this capacity, the Manager is expected to serve as subject matter expert on Basel II / III credit risk measurement Works collaboratively with senior level managers of credit risk: Director of Risk Analytics, Chief Credit Officer, Commercial Credit Executive, Consumer Credit Executive, Senior Credit Officers, Line of Business leadership, Credit Review, and Credit Process leadership Works very closely with the internal Quantitative Analytics group providing direction as to the type of analytical support needed for various work streams (for example, model build, back testing, and performance monitoring) Would provide leadership and direction on the following activities: Project Management Risk Rating Tool Improvements - Work to improve the banks commercial risk rating tools through new build activities, enhancements to existing tools or through implementing recommendations made through internal reporting/validation reporting or external benchmarking Broad knowledge of Underwriting/Credit Approval Technical application ability and skills Communication Skills Financial Statement Analysis This position is exempt from timekeeping requirements under the Fair Labor Standards act and is not eligible for overtime pay. Requirements Ten(10) years' investment portfolio management Five (5) years' experience in roles associated with leading risk rating tool design, build, and monitoring is recommended, although not required Candidates have most likely worked in a bank leading efforts to establish or maintain a two dimensional credit risk rating process May also have worked in a credit portfolio management role, credit administration role or in Credit Review An undergraduate degree in business, finance or economics is most common Candidates possessing advanced degrees in those fields or have a CPA or CFA certification or accounting experience would be strongly considered Project management expertise including the creation and management of work plans Deep understanding of Credit Underwriting and borrower financial statements, both company and individual Strong oral and written communication skills MS suite of products: Word, Excel and Powerpoint Work with minimal supervision, so the role needs to be self-motivated and disciplined Analytical skills Ability to get along with a wide range of people Good judgment, time-management skills and creativity are other desirable qualities Ability to work on a team is also an important attribute Very good organizational skills, with ability to direct several large scale projects simultaneously Ability to manage a multiple stream project plan, meet deadlines, and execution of key tasks is critical Experience or thorough knowledge in credit structuring and underwriting across a broad range of industry and property types Alternatively, credit approval or credit process management experience may be considered if other skills are met Working knowledge of statistically based, quantitative credit risk measurement techniques (such as model build and performance measurement) is needed to effectively interact and efficiently obtain support from the internal Quantitative Analytics team Ability to manipulate and present key information in the MS Office suite of products Knowledge of internal bank applications (MRA, Closer and AFS) is also desired Strong communication skills, both written and verbal Requires that the candidate have an in-depth knowledge and experience with corporate, commercial, real estate, individual and other types of financial statement information Deep understanding of balance sheet and income statement line items and their components is essential to this role Know various financial statement ratios and should have spread financial statements as an underwriter or similar type role in the past Preferences Master's degree preferred General Description: This role participates in the design and execution of project plans related to the development or improvement of risk rating tools and processes, including probability of default risk rating models and loss given default models. The role supports internal design group meetings where both internal and external subject matter experts provide their expertise in solving issues. Solutions are determined, work efforts are assigned and tracked and project plans are updated as the project evolves through successful conclusion. More than one project may be ongoing at any one time. Responsibilities: This role supports defined risk rating tools and processes and works to make them better. Where needed additional internal and external research would be conducted to augment understanding. After a gaining a thorough grasp of the existing tools or processes, the role would work in a collaborative way to improve them. To do this, key measurements of the tools or processes would need to be made. In addition, key stakeholders (internal and external) could be consulted for their thoughts on tool or process improvements. Determined process improvements would be communicated both verbally and in a written form. Results are tracked against milestones or measurements (tool back-tests or other reports), key dates or project goals. This role also functions to remove obstacles to progress. The role would interact in a collaborative team environment and could support other roles on the team in their work efforts. Specific Job Tasks: This role would focus on the following activities – Work with various business groups to assess internal and external data sources to the commercial risk rating loan application Collaborate with Credit Quantitative Risk team Governance activities – participate in the vetting of risk rating parameter measurements and management of calendar items. Items include documentation, policy, FAQs (risk rating frequently asked questions process document) and involvement in various risk rating training initiatives Prior Work Experience, Education and Training: This position requires experience in credit structuring and underwriting across a broad range of industry and property types.
