We have an exciting opportunity for a Technical Accounting Manager to join to join our financial services client based in Edinburgh on permanent basis.

The main purpose of this role is to provide technical accounting support to the Group, owning the Group Accounting policies and acting as the SME for accounting queries; providing guidance and advice to the business on IFRS and SII reporting for various business initiatives.

Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for Group accounting policies and Group Accounting Manual
  • Providing advice on the treatment under IFRS and Solvency 2 reporting for proposed initiatives including new products and transactions
  • Analysing and providing technical accounting support to the implementation of new accounting standards on Group results
  • Owning the production of IFRS and Solvency 2 reporting technical analyses required for the Group Audit Committee
  • Working closely with external auditors on IFRS and Solvency 2 reporting technical matters
  • Building & maintaining strong working relationships with other teams in Group Finance ensuring that technical accounting needs are communicated, understood and met
  • Leading the Group Technical Accounting team - ensuring a culture of effective performance management is embedded
  • Working collaboratively with colleagues and taking personal accountability to maintain and enhance controls you are responsible for; supporting improvement of the overall control environment, customer outcomes and a reduction in operational risk

Skills, Qualifications & Experience:

The successful candidate will possess a professional accounting qualification (Chartered Accountant or equivalent), with significant experience working in a Technical Accounting team and an up to date knowledge of IFRS and SII reporting requirements.

  • Previous experience of technical accounting gained within a Financial Services environment
  • Significant experience of working in a technical accounting team
  • Strong experience of accounting legislation, regulatory reporting standards, IFRS and strong report writing skills.
  • Exceptional stakeholder engagement skills, the ability to openly discuss solutions with a diverse audience.
  • Experience of leading teams and of providing leadership to technical specialists
  • Technically strong and able to demonstrate ability to interpret and apply new accounting standards or insurance regulatory requirements
