Basic Functions of Job: This is an entry level professional underwriting position within Chubb's Western Underwriting Center. The Commercial Express Underwriter is responsible for the management and underwriting of an assigned portfolio of business that is comprised of accounts less than $50K in premium. Major Responsibilities: Gather/analyze all change requests and general service inquiries for an assigned book of business containing 1,400-1,600 policies. Manage producer relationships with timely responses relative to endorsement and service inquiries. Adhere to documentation standards and ensure all underwriting documentation is complete and compliant to corporate standards. Timely adherence to both corporate and local workflows and business strategies. Knowledge, skills and abilities: Strong PC navigation skills including knowledge of Windows Operating Systems, Lotus Notes, and the Internet. Excellent verbal and written skills, with emphasis placed on speaking in front of others and an ability to articulate clearly and concisely. Business math aptitude. Strong comfort level with developing rapport with business partners, agents and co-workers by phone, email and in-person. Professional presence and teamwork minded. Successful problem solver. Self-starter that is energized by independent learning and research. Ability to thrive in a fast-pace environment that continuously adapts and changes based on customer need. Ability to articulate the basics of how insurance companies work, including P&C and Commercial Lines. Basic to intermediate knowledge of underwriting principles and policy forms. Ability to demonstrate strong business acumen and critical thinking skills which lead to confident decision making and judgment. Ability to prioritize and perform within time constraints with a high volume of work. Strong organizational and desk management skills. Education and Experience: High School Diploma or equivalent.
