Due to current growth and further expansion plans we have the need to recruit an experienced Semi-Senior Accountant into the team. We are looking for an enthusiastic individual to work within a team in a practicing accountants office. As a company we offer outstanding practical and theoretical training for ACCA with a study support package available to the successful candidate.

As a Semi-Senior Accountant we would expect you to be moving away from task- based work to on-going client management throughout the year in a practicing accountants office. Managing your own work-load and taking responsibility for developing relationships with clients, as well as developing your technical and commercial skills. We want to prepare you for becoming a Senior Accountant. A very real opportunity with us.

The practice is located in the historic market town of Belper within Amber Valley on the doorstep of the Peak District National Park without the hustle and bustle of city life and with the Derwent Valley World Heritage Site running through the town. It is, though, within an easy commute of the large cities of Birmingham, Nottingham, Sheffield and Derby that offer many entertainment, shopping and cultural offerings. Belper, which won the best town high street recently, itself is growing town with many exclusive residential developments or an even greater number of superb character villages situated within idyllic Derbyshire countryside.

Full time - 37 ½ hours per week. Core hours 8.30am to 5.00pm with lunch break

20 days Annual Leave + 8 bank holidays per calendar year

Contributory pension scheme Main Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Preparation of accounts and related taxation work for a wide variety of clients using Iris, including Limited Companies, Sole Traders and Partnerships, ready for partner / senior review

  • Clearance of queries with client prior to review

  • Process final accounts adjustments subsequent to review

  • Contact clients requesting books and records, in order for work to commence

  • Completion of periodic client bookkeeping and VAT returns

Skills and experience required:

  • Between three and five years’ experience working in an Accountancy Practice preparing accounts and tax computationsAbility to pick up procedures and processes quickly

  • AAT qualified or ACCA studier

  • IT literate, including use of computerised systems, preferably Iris, Sage and Excel

  • Preparation and completion of personal tax returns for individuals and partnerships

  • Numerate, thorough and attention to detail

  • A sense of humour

  • Good communication/interpersonal skills, both with colleagues and clients

  • Ability to work using own initiative with little supervision, showing good organisational skills

  • Ability to manage and plan workload, and prioritise

  • Positive and friendly 'can-do’ attitude

  • Confident

  • Keen to progressDriving Licence and car owner

Duties required of all L&S employees

  • Undertake the induction programme as devised, and assist, as requested, in the induction and training of new staff, interns and students.
  • Participate in staff meetings, team meetings, supervision meetings, appraisals, consultancy, training, team development sessions, working groups and other meetings as required, reporting back as appropriate.

  • Share responsibility for the effective use of systems and procedures regarding clients and other records, finance, staff communications, and the dissemination of good practice and effective workings methods within L&S.

  • Deal with complaints in accordance with L&S agreed procedure. In addition, all staff have a duty to report any breach of service standards to line management.

  • Share responsibility for good health and safety practices, reporting any concerns to line management.

  • Undertake such other duties in accordance with the post holder’s level of responsibility as may be required from time to time to maintain or enhance L&S services.

  • Work as part of a team towards ensuring effective client support.

  • To be administratively self-servicing.

  • To take personal responsibility for your own training and development, including keeping up to date with best practice and training methods.

  • Maintain professional working standards and to workin adherence with the company’s accreditations.

  • Undertake all duties in accordance with L&S policies, with reference to the Equal Opportunities, Health & Safety and confidentiality and data privacy policies including GDPR, and work towards their continuing development and implementation.
