Assistant Financial Controller

Reed Finance is recruiting on behalf of a very successful distribution client based in central Belfast, for an experienced Assistant Financial Controller.

This role is a unique opportunity to gain exposure in a fast-paced commercial environment with a number of key projects to be undertaken alongside the day to day management of a busy finance team.

We are specifically welcoming applications from highly motivated individuals who demonstrate the ability to think on their feet in a pressurised and evolving environment. You will in turn benefit from strong mentorship from the Finance Director together with gaining practical exposure at a realistic pace on a pathway to becoming the Financial Controller.

*This role is ideally suited to those coming from industry and with commercial experience.

Reporting to and working closely with the Financial Director, the successful applicant will be expected to undertake a number of key tasks within a fast-paced growing finance department to include:

Working closely with the Financial Director on a number of business projects including the centralisation of a number of satellite accounts functions;

Timely production of Monthly Management Accounts;

Supporting year end accounting processes;

Balance sheet reconciliations;

Being responsible for month end procedures;

Being responsible for filing of statutory returns (VAT etc.);

Being responsible for INTRASTAT;

Being responsible for bringing accounts to at least Trial Balance stage;

Being responsible for preparing audit files (back up documentation and information);

Providing guidance, leadership and training whilst coordinating and delegating to the finance administrative team members;

Working closely with the finance administrative team in the resolution of ledger queries and making recommendations of best practice;

Providing ad hoc support to the Financial Controller with the long-term view of career/responsibility progression.

We require someone with a high degree of commercial acumen/commitment and in turn will offer the successful applicant genuine career progression within this growing group of companies.

You must demonstrate previous experience in working to tight deadlines and the ability to work on your own initiative, offering flexibility during anticipated busy periods (month end/year end etc.).

You must offer the ability to question/challenge current practices and recommend changes to policies or procedures relevant to the accounts department.

Experience with statutory returns including INTRASTAT is essential.

Previous people management would be advantageous however this is not essential (providing you have a willingness and the communication skills to undertake supervisory responsibilities).

You will also be adept with software such as MS Excel, with Sage 200 being distinctly advantageous.

All applicants should be a fully/newly qualified Accountant (ACA, ICAI, ACCA or equivalent), with a desire to undertake a core industry role but with genuine scope.
