P/T Finance Business Partner
Location: Brighton (regular travel to trust sites in East and West Sussex will be required so you must have access to your own car)
Hours: 29.6 hours per week / 52 weeks per year
Salary: £28,238 to £30,502 per annum, pro-rata, depending on skills and experience

We are currently recruiting for a P/T Finance Business Partner for an established educational organisation based in Brighton

The successful candidate will develop a close working relationship with a number of academies / departments, in order to provide guidance, challenge, support and information to Principals and senior budget managers during the annual budget setting process and throughout the year in order to optimise resource efficiency. They will also support budget holders in measuring, analysing and improving performance against key indicators, whilst sharing good practice and learning across the Trust. As a member of the finance team, you will work closely with the rest of the Finance Business Partner team and the Accounting & Reporting team to maintain seamless departmental communication.

Duties will include:

  • Support and challenge a portfolio of budget holders to plan their Academy's or Professional Service's annual operational budgets and three-year projections in line with the Trust's strategy and policies and the Academy/Professional Service's needs and plans.
  • Hold budget managers to account against key financial performance (and other) indicators and identify recommendations for efficiency improvements within the Academy/department.
  • Support the collation and reporting of timely and accurate monthly and annual financial information for Academies & Professional Services. Liaising as necessary between the Finance Department and the Trust's Academies and Professional Services.
  • Ensure effective and regular communication with a portfolio of Academies and Professional Services on behalf of the Finance Department.
  • Work with Academy and Professional Service budget holders and business managers/administrators understand their roles and responsibilities, continuously building their skill and confidence.
  • Work closely with the Accounting & Reporting Team to maintain seamless departmental communication and training, providing financial support and guidance to stakeholders as required.
  • Deliver training in line with the Finance Manager and Finance Business Partner Lead's priorities, sharing business knowledge, ideas and best practice across the Trust and within Finance
  • Support budget holders in preparing for the annual external audit and internal reviews.
  • Support and assist the Procurement Officer with information and guidance to enable best-value procurement and the efficient and effective use of the Trust's resources.
  • Financial Systems and Processes
  • Support the development and maintenance of all planning, budgeting and management information tools and guidance (e.g. BPS and budget setting guidance).


The ideal candidate will have the following skills or experience:
* AAT qualified
* CCAB / CIMA part-qualified
* Qualification in business administration/management (Level 3 or higher)
* Evidence of formal learning in education finance or public sector financial management
* Experience of UK management accounting and reporting
* Experience of providing direct challenge and support to senior budget holders
* Thorough knowledge of UK accounting standards, tax legislation and company and charity law
* Experience in the production of financial management information (including forecasts)
* Experience of supporting senior budget holders to fulfil their responsibilities in respect of financial planning, analysis and reporting
* Experience of coaching and motivating stakeholders and colleagues with varied skills and experience
* Experience of building positive relationships within a finance team and with stakeholders
* Strong commercial experience and outlook
