Bawinanga Aboriginal Corporation is a large and complex community-based organisation providing services to 32 homelands in the Maningrida region. Bawinanga administers some 30 grants and manages a suite of businesses and programs including: Housing maintenance and construction, Civil Works, the Babbarra Women's Centre, a land and se Ranger program, the Barlmarrk Supermarket and fuel supplies, Mechanical Workshops, a significant Art and Culture Centre, Night Patrol, Employment Services (CDP) and Money Management Services. Bawinanga's mission is to improve the lifestyle of people on homelands by caring for country, preserving language and culture through the delivery of services to improve housing, health, education and roads.

We're currently seeking an intelligent and determined Finance Manager to assist us in achieving our goals.

About the role:

You are responsible for the timely and accurate provision of the operational management of accounting services to divisions within Bawinanga. Your primary function is to manage the financial aspects of grants, contracts and project activities and be responsible for the development and maintenance of all budgets. The position reports to the Chief Financial Officer and has supervision of two financial officer positions.

As the Financial Business Partner to our divisional managers, you will provide sound advice, recommendations and commentary that can be used to make key business decisions. Alongside ensuring that regulated accounting standards are met and upheld, you will also be responsible for the oversight of our Auditing process, Financial Reporting and ensuring internal accounting controls are maintained.

About You

You are Tertiary Qualified and ideally a Chartered Accountant with extensive experience in a similar role. It goes without saying that you are a great leader and are able to mentor and coach those under you. You are able to provide sound, complex and trusted advice to your business partners across financial and accounting policy, standards and provide expert analysis to the board and senior stakeholders. You are a systems whizz and are able to deliver on the budgeting cycle, external and internal reporting, funding requirements and manage cashflow.

Ideally, you also have worked in a remote community and understand the excitement and challenges that come along with a post of this nature. You must have the desire to learn or knowledge of Aboriginal culture and communities and how they operate!
