The Chartered Accountants Ireland Public Policy and Tax Team provide information on key tax developments in both the Irish and UK jurisdictions where most of our members operate.  We monitor developments in EU law so that we can comment and advise on domestic legislation.  We respond to our members' views on aspects of tax law and administration which create difficulties both in industry and in practice, and we work with Government and Government bodies to highlight concerns and develop solutions.  Operating on a commercial basis, the Department's outputs include Chartered Accountants Tax News, TaxSource and tax.point. This is a fixed purpose contract - Maternity Leave The Role Representations Researching and developing full competency on technical and administrative issues relating to Irish tax law and practice. Attending at meetings with Revenue, Finance and other agencies and professional bodies as appropriate to convey the views of the Institute.  Recording the proceedings of the meetings and briefing colleagues and Institute contributors as appropriate. Management of the CCAB-I Tax Committee South Taking and considering representations from members, and notifying and briefing the Director and/or the volunteer committees as appropriate. Researching and drafting of technical submissions to Government on areas determined by the Institute committees and/or the Director and managing the review and consultation process both before and after the submission is made.  Devising approaches and strategies to maximise the impact of the submissions, and identifying, in consultation with the Committees, matters for inclusion. Drafting technical articles for publication, including the drafting of articles in the name of other Institute officers. Attending at, participating or otherwise contributing to conferences, seminars and other events on the Institute's behalf, whether Institute arranged or otherwise. Other representations activity as advised by the Director from time to time, including meetings and representations to other Revenue authorities, the OECD and the European Commission. Information Delivery Working with the Public Policy and Tax Team in: Compiling, editing and commissioning tax content for the Institute's weekly tax eNews service. Compiling, editing and commissioning tax content for the Institute's monthly tax magazine tax.point. Managing the publication process - typesetters, printers, delivery fulfilment and marketing. Managing the maintenance and updating of the tax.point web presence Managing the maintenance and updating of the tax sections of the ICAI web presence Dealing with reasonable member and volunteer technical queries, but not offering tax advice or professional advisory services commercially or otherwise Dealing with queries from other departments and ATI, and assisting with content for their publications Devising and implementing new approaches, services and strategies to better provide tax & information services to Chartered Accountants Dealing with information research and delivery projects as required by the Director of Public Policy and Taxation Other duties and projects as assigned by the Director. Rigorous and documented research into tax and related areas, both nationally and internationally Maintaining tax knowledge and commercial skills to the highest level Participation in tax team meetings and other Institute activities Full sharing of information with other team members, and other departments of the Institute as the need arises Participating to the full in general management initiatives such as Project Aspire and “Great Places to Work” General Rigorous and documented research into tax and related areas, both nationally and internationally Maintaining tax knowledge and commercial skills to the highest level Participation in tax team meetings and other Institute activities Full sharing of information with other team members, and other departments of the Institute as the need arises Participating to the full in general management initiatives such as Project Aspire and “Great Places to Work” The Candidate The successful candidate will ideally be a member of a recognised accountancy body with a minimum of 5 years' post qualification experience in a practice or regulatory environment. Essential An excellent knowledge of professional, technical and ethical standards together with excellent organisational, communication and influencing skills and a good level of IT literacy will be required. The candidate should be able to demonstrate an ability/evidence of communicating effectively on technical matters with credibility at all levels. The candidate must be capable of working on their own initiative.  They must be able to take ownership of the role, and be capable of making key decisions while also actively collaborating within a team focussed on results and targets. An ability to take on new duties and support others when required within the team. Experience of management of multiple deadlines. Requirement to travel occasionally (within the island of Ireland) Natural relationship builder with credibility, integrity and reliability - with peers as well as members and committee volunteers. Excellent listening, negotiation and presentation skills - an effective communicator via all channels. Desirable Demonstrable experience of  presenting for technical and other professional audiences
