Gain valuable experience working in the community while providing support to people displaced due to emergency events

On-going position
Various times depending on emergency event
Join the World's largest humanitarian network

The Program

Australian Red Cross has been helping communities during times of emergency for over 100 years. Red Cross volunteers assist communities throughout Australia to prepare, respond and recover from disasters and other significant emergencies.

In the Northern Territory, Red Cross assists communities through managing evacuation centres on behalf of the Northern Territory Government, helping those we have been forced from their homes due to extreme weather events.

The Opportunity

This role suits someone who is a true humanitarian at heart, is approachable and helpful, and able to remain level headed when dealing with challenging situations. Evacuation centres can be busy, stressful places to be, or they can be very easy with very little for volunteers to do - depending on the type, size and scale of the emergency event - therefore an ability to be able to work in a rapidly changing and stressful environment would be an asset.

You would be working with an amazing group of fellow volunteers and will be offered numerous training and exercising opportunities in order to prepare you for the role.

The Impact

As an Evacuation Centre Volunteer, you would be assisting people who have been deeply affected by emergency events both in the Northern Territory or inter-state. In the stressful and chaotic time of a disaster or emergency, you would provide a sense of calm, stability and hope to evacuees which can aid in their recovery and build their resilience.
