Paramedics (Combat Paramedics) in the Army Reserve belong to the Royal Australian Army Medical Corps (RAAMC). The RAAMC, in conjunction with the Royal Australian Army Dental Corps (RAADC) and the Royal Australian Army Nursing Corps (RAANC) are responsible for providing every aspect of health care to support and maintain the health and well-being of Army personnel. The Corps are made up of highly trained professionals who are often called upon to work, in a variety of operational and non-operational conditions, which are both challenging and rewarding.

The role of the RAAMC is to provide medically trained personnel for in clinical care, evacuation teams, medical facilities and hospitals. The RAAMC also trains the Army's physical training instructors, operating theatre technicians, and preventive medicine personnel.

The duties of a CBT PARAMED are to provide independent pre-hospital emergency care, evacuation of casualties, resuscitation for the sick and wounded, and limited primary health care. They must be able to cope with conventional/unconventional injuries and illnesses in a variety of situations and environments, and they effectively form the first line of defence for emergency response and evacuation on the front line.

All combat units include a medical element of members of the RAAMC so that health care and emergency medical care is available to soldiers from the point of battle back through to medical treatment facilities as their condition demands.

The CBT PARAMED is employed in Army Reserve organisations completing the following tasks depending on skill grade and courses:

Provide emergency care as part of a team or as an independent health care provider
Participate in team resuscitation of a casualty
Provide health administrative support
Provide basic primary health care
Participate in basic stores accounting by maintaining medical equipment IAW Army's Technical Regulatory Framework
Operate the Wet Bulb Globe Temperature apparatus
Work effectively with others
Coordinate a scene in a pre-hospital care setting
Manage a casualty in a pre-hospital setting
Provide limited Environmental health support at platoon/company level during training activities
Conduct prescribed substance testing
Manage and treat basic sports injuries
Coordinate casualty extraction/ evacuation
Plan/conduct and evaluate a training session
Manage safe practice in the workplace
Coordinate health logistic support
Coordinate health administrative support
Manage leadership by promoting effective work practices within the health industry
Respond effectively to difficult or challenging behaviour in the workplace
Manage a health capability
Plan and provide sub unit level health support
Contributing to the siting and deployment of a CSS Battalion
Assist in the planning of integrated logistics and health support to a deployed force
Assist in the coordination of the deployment of an operational health support facility
Coordinating and assisting in the redeployment of an operational health support facility and
Provide health support planning to activities.
