Business Partner, Global Purchasing – Europe

Job Purpose:

European/Regional category lead for indirect and services procurement: Europe and developing markets (Eastern Hemisphere).

Manage and facilitate sourcing projects, working with country purchasing teams and global category managers; identifying cost saving and optimisation opportunities for assigned indirect spend commodities. Responsible for developing regional category strategy utilising best in class sourcing methodologies and e-sourcing tools on total commodity spend.

Principle Accountabilities:

  • Strategic management of category to drive improvements (including supplier relationship management) developing the supply base whilst listening to and delivering results for stakeholders in line with the organisation’s objectives.
  • Develop negotiations strategies and drive negotiations to achieve stated goals and objectives
  • Remain current with market trends through relationships with suppliers and market experts; identify and communicate new technologies and solutions to key problems in the assigned spend areas
  • Analysis of procurement spend and supply base to establish suppliers pertaining to the category and sub category
  • Development of savings opportunities and benchmarking of industry standards and practices to identify quick win opportunities
  • Use leading practice procurement tools to develop and implement the sourcing strategies including:
      • Supply market positioning
      • Supply base profiles
      • Supplier assessment
      • Supplier financial analysis
      • Request For Information (RFI), Request For Proposal (RFP), Request For Quotation (RFQ)
      • Service level agreements
      • E-Auctions
      • Summary of quotations
      • Cost analysis
      • Objective decision making

    · Negotiate contractual agreements with suppliers to ensure that service, quality, added value, total cost, security of supply and the deployment of the suppliers capabilities in innovation are secured, including Risk Assessment.

    • Manage and develop supplier relationships and ongoing negotiations, for the procurement category and sub categories. Utilise leading practice procurement tools (such as cost trend analysis, price change analysis and supplier performance reviews) to deliver breakthrough performance in cost, service, quality and innovation. Keep internal customers informed and involved in ongoing supplier management

    Skills and Abilities:

    • A good understanding of the role of a category manager. Usually demonstrated by a proven ability to develop and articulate category strategies and have a breadth of category experience in a similar role
    • Proven experience of providing highly effective supplier relationship management and development plans.
    • Effective communicator at all levels, up to and including senior management
    • Understand and work to the Company ethical standards.

    Background, Experience and Qualifications:

    • Degree (or equivalent)
    • Appropriate professional qualification e.g. MCIPS or FCIPS (Chartered Institute of Purchasing & Supply), CPM or CPSM (Institute of Supply Management), or similar relevant technical qualification.
    • In depth knowledge of procurement within their procurement category
    • Strong analytical and interpersonal skills
    • Ability to articulate objectives and influence at all levels of management in the company
    • Proven negotiating skills
    • Good information skills to include wide experience of word documents, Excel spreadsheets (including pivot tables and charts) and PowerPoint
    • Excellent planning, prioritisation and organisational skills.
    • Persuasive, collaborative, logical, capable presenter – can provide reasoned arguments
    • Comfortable around higher management
    • As part of a European organisation, capability in a second European language would be desirable
    • Project management skills –able to prioritise and manage detail if required
    • Flexible approach to involvement and support to other commodities and projects as required.
