An Assistant Accountant position has recently been created at a leading retail business based in Manchester City Centre. You will be taking full control and responsibility of the day to day management of stock accounting and financial control for the company – ensuring accuracy of stock reporting through transparency, timeliness and regular analysis.
As an Assistant Accountant, you will be responsible for:
* Taking ownership of the accounting process for inventory – specifically to balance sheet and P&L reporting on stock levels, aging and cost of sales including variances
* Month end close activity, including preparation of journals, posting and reconciliation to GL
* Developing inventory analysis reports and analysing variances
* Preparation of weekly inventory reports for management including calculation of stock provisioning
* Minimising inventory write-offs to P&L by identifying key risks and raising these to management
* Improving current inventory reporting analytics to provide insights regarding inventory holding
* Effectively reviewing, improving and streamlining existing inventory processes and procedures
* Guiding, assisting and analysing the company’s inventory counts
* Improving internal controls related to inventory
* Liaising with other departments to resolve issues directly affecting inventory
* Contacting the Internal and External Audit teams regarding inventory
As an Assistant Accountant, you will have/be:
* Experience dealing with large data reconciliations
* IT literate – intermediate MS Excel skills are essential
* Previous experience working within an inventory role (ideally working at a retail business)
* Actively studying for an ACCA / ACA / CIMA qualification
* Previous experience using SAP
* Strong analytical skills and experience manipulating large sets of data
* Excellent communication skills and the ability to influence senior stakeholders
* Disciplined and able to work under pressure to achieve deadlines
* High level of attention to detail
