This global firm with a first class reputation are looking for a VAT Manager to join their team with a focus on EMEA VAT. Our client in in the middle of a multi-billion pound acquisition and this is a fantastic opportunity to be involved.
Client Details
Reporting to the Head of Tax, this is a key role within central finance with significant financial responsibility, acting as the primary point of contact for VAT issues. Our client have a fantastic reputation and are a well known FTSE listed business with an international presence.
Description
Business advisory
- Providing support to the businesses in relation to business transactions ensuring that VAT risks are appropriately managed
- Providing advice to our Business Process Outsourcing team on VAT queries raised by suppliers and customers
- Assisting in developing ideas, providing input and analysis to various VAT savings and mitigation initiatives and supporting practical implementation
- Providing training to key business areas as required (e.g. financial analysts, BPO, sales teams)
- Providing support to the Group Tax Department
Management
- Managing all aspects of VAT compliance and creating a motivating and supportive environment for a small team.
Compliance
- Full ownership of European VAT compliance, including managing the preparation and filing of VAT returns
- Reviewing and approving VAT treatment for new events, manual invoices and credit notes
- Preparing and reviewing UK partial exemption methodology, managing registration and deregistration of entities in the UK VAT Group
- Managing VAT audits carried out by the internal audit team and/or HMRC and other authorities
- Identifying, preparing and reviewing of voluntary disclosures for approval by the Group Tax Department
- Proactively monitoring changes in legislation, assessing the impact on the business, communicating and managing any required changes
- Supporting the Group Tax Department with enquiries from HMRC and other external tax authorities
- Managing professional costs in relation to compliance (raising of purchase orders, negotiating and agreeing fees)
- Reviewing VAT reconciliations and agreeing to VAT control Accounts in Oracle
- Maintaining Oracle VAT registration summary for Group Tax Department
Risk & controls
- Performing analyses and review of VAT recorded by using OneSource to determine the high risk areas (e.g. manual invoices) and implementing corrective steps
- Designing and executing a review method for VAT processes to identify areas where controls can be enhanced, for example, based on SAO guidelines (issue logs, sign-offs)
- Ensuring operational (AR and AP) effectiveness and continuously improving the integrity of processes relating to VAT
- Performing reviews and updates of process documentation (e.g. Desk Top Procedures)
- Continuously liaising with the Group Tax Department to improve the integrity of our VAT controls
Profile
Either working in an in house VAT/ Indirect Tax position as a manager or working withing a chartered accounting practice and looking to make a step in to an in house position
ATT/ CTA/ ACA/ ACCA qualified or qualified by experience

£65,000- £72,500
