Swinburnes Faculty of Science, Engineering and Technology (FSET) is at the forefront of the university's focus on developing innovative solutions to real-life problems.

FSET comprises of the schools of science, engineering, and software and electrical engineering. Our teaching equips Swinburne graduates with practical experience applying the latest knowledge in their field.

About the job
As the Manager, Technical and Laboratory Support - Science you will be responsible for providing authoritative advice and management of the science technical staff and laboratories in the Faculty of Science, Engineering and Technology (FSET). Bringing your previous laboratory management skills to the table, you will lead a range of technical staff in managing the daily running of our labs. You will be pivotal in coordinating and managing projects associated with laboratory renovations, as well as advising our Facilities and Services Group for major capital works, ensuring that the minimum security services are put in place for the faculty.
You collaborative style will enable you to work across the Faculty and develop consistent practices and procedures for our people. As an experienced people leader, you will be able to lead your team to provide comprehensive and efficient technical support to staff and students. You will be managing a team of 9 direct reports across 38 laboratories at the University.

About you
To be successful in the role, you will have:

• Relevant postgraduate qualifications and relevant experience and management expertise; or an equivalent combination of relevant experience and/or education/training in a relevant science discipline.

• Experience in a technical management role requiring the ability to plan, coordinate, supervise, monitor and evaluate.

• Experience and knowledge of the science and equipment relating to chemistry, biochemistry, physics and microbiology.

• Demonstrated advance knowledge of laboratory standards, procedures and regulations.
