Description

The main purpose of this role is to effectively and efficiently manage tax risk across Europe whilst providing a value added service to stakeholders and customers. Additionally, the role should focus on the reduction of external consultants, exploiting business efficiency opportunities to enhance profitability, tax recoveries and cash flow

European Tax Manager responsibilities include:

Leadership:

Take ownership for design and delivery of the business plan

Lead, coach and manage the team and create a strong team spirit

High degree of decision making and pro-activity, goal oriented

Create a collaborative environment based on clear communication

Strategy and Planning

Work to define, propose and implement overall strategy of tax to focus on the reduction of external consultants, exploit business efficiency opportunities to enhance profitability, tax recoveries and cash flow and optimize risk management.

To assess inherent tax risks with the European Group and to develop effective taxation policies to mitigate those risks.

To execute the strategy in an efficient and effective manner including defining targets and action plans and preparing and managing budgets/reports

Encourage new ideas and thinking on execution

Centralise and share knowledge and expertise of European tax matters affecting the business

Managing/Execution of Operations

Manage, develop and coach the team for succession planning, professional development and business awareness to ensure overall departmental competence, continuity and development and ultimate achievement of business objectives

Drive a customer service culture, based on trust, transparency and team work, across the European region through direct support, collaboration and communication

Ensure support is proactive to the business and business decision making in order to identify, highlight, evaluate and mitigate tax risk

Increase agility, responsiveness and efficiency wherever possible though the reduction of complexity thus creating effective and customer focused support to the business which is clearly understood by the business

Ensure compliance with external standards, statutory, regulatory and corporate requirements and governance

Work closely with Japan and other regions tax teams and external consultants to ensure consistent application of global policy and strategy

Profile

Knowledge, skills and experience required for the European Tax Manager :

Experienced tax practitioner with previous experience of direct international taxes (particularly transfer pricing) gained in practice or from working within an international group.

Proven track record for cross border tax planning and international direct tax management / projects.

Significant experience in negotiating successfully with tax authorities.

Good working knowledge of associated technical areas such as treasury, accounting and audit.

Extensive knowledge of UK tax legislation, case law, guidance, and best practice.

Experience of European taxes and awareness of main features of local regimes.

Experience of employment taxes also useful
