A Group Financial Controller opportunity, reporting to the Group Finance Director of an entrepreneurial group of businesses in Lancashire
Client Details
My client is a privately owned, diverse group of companies, with a 20 year history of high growth and substantial profits. The business has evolved and diversified successfully, and is seeking to hire a Group Finance Director to oversee all Financial Operations of the Group. The business operates across an array of sectors and is an easy commute from Preston, Blackburn, Lancaster etc
Description
- Management and development of financial controls and systems within the finance department and across the organisation
- Business partnering with departmental managers to provide value for money solutions
- Managing company-wide insurances
- Operation and improvement of financial systems of record (SAGE), including closer integration with the customer billing system
- Management of cash flows and the Group cash position, covenant compliance and wider banking relationships
- Supervision of the ledger processes, payments, HMRC/VAT compliance/returns etc
- Preparation, development and analysis of management accounting and other financial and reporting information, including the cash flow statements, income and expenditure accounts and balance sheet accounts
- Updating, reviewing and documenting financial policies and procedures
- Implementing a group wide annual planning / forecasting process, improving the systems surrounding all aspects of the departmental budgets, forecasts and business planning
- Managing the statutory accounts process, HMRC returns, including liaison with auditors and advisors
- Overseeing all tax and regulatory/compliance issues as they pertain to the finance function
- Providing management direction and support to the finance team and responsibility for the team and performance
- Providing advice, support and training on financial aspects of the organisation, helping to raise financial and commercial acumen in non-financial areas
- Act as a subject matter expert in technical accounting & reporting requirements that pertain to the group's operations
- Supporting Group Finance Director in developing and delivering financial and business strategy for the group and individual business units
- Continuous review of financial, control and management information systems and procedures and implementing improvements in consultation with Group Finance Director
- Delegating for the Group FD as required
Profile
- Able to operate effectively in both SME/start-up/growth environment and more complex group/corporate like context
- Comfortable in both a strategic context (eg group planning / board engagement) and operationally hands on (eg building accounting processes, supervising ledger activity)
- Knowledge of the financial requirements of operating in regulated sectors
- Familiarity with SAGE accounts software, all Microsoft packages with advanced spreadsheet skills
- Highly developed control sensitivities, with sufficient managerial experience and pragmatism to operate in a fast growing / developing organisation
- The ability to motivate and manage a team
- Excellent communication skills and ability to engage/support/influence non-finance colleagues
