Job Title:                     RCSI Lead - Clinical Pharmacology Location:                    Perdana University, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia Reporting to:             Dean, Perdana University-RCSI School of Medicine, and to Professor/Head of Department of Molecular & Cellular Therapeutics (MCT) in RCSI Dublin Term of office:           Whole time/3 year appointment, with potential for renewal   1.1              Objective The principal objective of the post is to lead and participate in the development, direction, teaching, facilitation and examining of the undergraduate Medical teaching programmes of Perdana University in Clinical Pharmacology (“Discipline area”). The appointee may be required to teach at other RCSI campuses and locations, within Malaysia and internationally. 1.2              The Position RCSI invites applications for the position of Lead in Clinical Pharmacology to work on the RCSI-PU Undergraduate Medical Programme. The position will be affiliated with the Department of Molecular & Cellular Therapeutics (MCT) in RCSI Dublin. The role holder will deliver the RCSI curriculum in the multi-cultural environment of Kuala Lumpur and liaise with RCSI Dublin on curriculum delivery, examinations and research matters, ensuring academic quality and consistency across the RCSI campuses. RCSI delivers the same medical degree programme and academic degrees across its campuses in Ireland, Bahrain and Malaysia. The RCSI Lead in Perdana University is responsible for delivering this same course and assessments, and to contribute to the continual renewal of this common programme. RCSI is seeking a professional who is passionate about teaching and learning, would like to experience working as an academic in an international environment, who demonstrates initiative, openness, resilience and who is keen to explore possibilities for research and extending clinical partnerships in the region. The Lead positions at PU-RCSI are academic posts. For clinical disciplines, most clinical leads have focussed their professional duties on the academic dimensions (teaching, assessment, developing clinical relationships, research) however, there may be some flexibility to pursue a partial clinical role, if the successful candidate was interested in doing so. Opportunities may also arise for engaging in research studies; liaising with RCSI Dublin or continuing research studies already in progress. RCSI in Dublin is the main campus; Bahrain and Kuala Lumpur deliver the curriculum that is developed in Dublin. The programme is accredited by the Irish Medical Council, the Malaysian Medical Council, and the Malaysian Qualifications Agency. The programme has 300 students, of which the first full-cycle cohort graduated in September 2016 with degrees awarded by RCSI and the National University of Ireland. A second cohort graduated in September 2017. The curriculum is delivered largely by a team of RCSI specialist academic leads, who liaise with RCSI Dublin on a range of academic topics. Malaysia offers an exciting location to work and live as a modern, culturally diverse, dynamic country, with a low living costs and a myriad of possibilities for economical onward travel.  Additional information on RCSI Perdana University, the RCSI-PU programme and an overview of living in Malaysia can be found at sections 2.0 onwards. 1.4.            Specific Duties and Responsibilities include: ·         Contributing to the development, facilitation and delivery of the undergraduate medical school teaching programme in the discipline area. ·         Organising programmes of instruction, including lectures, tutorials, practical activities and assessment in a discipline area for undergraduate students at Perdana University ·         Liaising closely with the Dean and relevant staff at Perdana University PU-RCSI regarding curriculum development, teaching programmes and examinations. ·         Liaising with the Professor / Head of Department and staff at RCSI Dublin regarding curriculum, examinations and research matters, as appropriate. ·         Evaluating and assessing student achievement in formal courses. ·         Implementing policies and decisions as determined by the Dean at PU-RCSI and the Perdana University RCSI Medical Faculty Board. ·         Advising and mentoring undergraduate students and providing advocacy as appropriate ·         Maintaining records to monitor student progress, achievement and attendance ·         Supporting students by participating in the Personal Tutor system ·         Promoting innovative education technologies as appropriate to support the course content. ·         As appropriate, pursuing independent research or research collaborations relevant to the undergraduate medical school in PU-RCSI ·         Preparing subject content for e-learning purposes as requested ·         Ensuring course curricula and materials are kept up-to-date ·         Undertaking overseas assignments as may be required and be willing to travel to RCSI's main Dublin campus as required ·         Complying with Malaysian statutory legislation and implementing Perdana University rules and requirements in furtherance of your own and general staff welfare and safety ·         Undergoing programmes of training and development as may be required from time to time ·         Representing the best interests of PU-RCSI at all times ·         Performing such other related duties as may be requested   1.5.            Person Specification: The successful candidate will possess/demonstrate the following: ·         Possession of the a medical qualification, such as MB ChB BAO or equivalent from a medical school listed in the World Directory of Medical Schools Guide: https://search.wdoms.org/ ·         Registration as a specialist in the Specialist Division of the Register of Medical Practitioners maintained by the Medical Council in Ireland, or equivalent specialist registration, within the specialty of Clinical Pharmacology or Pharmaceutical Medicine. ·         An up to date understanding of trends in undergraduate Medical Education ·         Excellent teaching skills with a minimum of 5 years experience and evidence of a strong track record in undergraduate teaching, assessment, course management and curriculum development ·         Credible managerial and leadership qualities with the ability to: o    Communicate, motivate and delegate o    Identify and cultivate talent o    Inspire action form others o    Lead effective teams ·         A research track record, commensurate with experience ·         Excellent communication and interpersonal skills ·         Evidence of leadership and management skills ·         A team player willing to show flexibility in relation to working commitments ·         Excellent spoken and written English ·         Sensitivity to the cultural challenges involved in delivering undergraduate education in a diverse multi-cultural environment ·         A strong interest in working in an overseas multi-cultural environment 1.6.            Application Procedure Applications for this post must be made through the RCSI careers website.
