Township -

Innisfail is town of approximately 20,000 people located in the Cassowary Coast Region in Far North Queensland. Known for its fishing and farming (sugar cane, tea, bananas, pawpaws and coffee) industries, Innisfail is a picturesque town, based on the banks of the North and South Johnstone Rivers and has a large diverse range of Art Deco buildings. The town has a vibrant retail centre with some national stores and many smaller locally owned speciality shops.
The district offers public and private schooling as well as a TAFE College. Innisfail has a newly refurbished hospital with helipad and has aged care facilities.
Cairns is just a 1 hour drive north and offers plenty of tourist activities and has an international airport. There are also 2 universities - JCU and CQU. Beautiful beaches, including Mission Beach a popular tourist destination along the Coral Sea Coast, with links to Dunk and Bedarra Islands. Innisfail is also home to the multi award winning tourist attraction Paronella Park. The Atherton Tablelands is just a 1 hour drive up the Palmerston Highway, leading to rainforests, crater lakes, the Herberton Heritage Village, Kuranda and Yungaburra markets, hot air ballooning and Tinaroo Dam.

It is a friendly community that provides plenty of sporting opportunities including football, tennis, squash, lawn bowls, golf, pony club, martial arts, dancing, cricket, rowing, swimming, netball and basketball. A warm tropical climate and an annual rainfall of around 3500mm ensures the area is always lush and green. Agriculture is the major economic driver with well-established banana, sugar cane and tropical fruit industries. Nearby Mourilyan Harbour is a major regional port with bulk sugar-loading facilities, and the South Johnstone Sugar Mill is a significant local employer.

The town is a major service hub for the Cassowary Coast region and has a wide range of shops including national retail outlets, along with government services and regional health and educational facilities.
With access to two World Heritage Areas - the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park and the Wet Tropics rainforests - the town is surrounded by beautiful natural attractions. Etty Bay, Flying Fishing.


Innisfail has one of the best collections of art deco buildings in Australia and visitors can take a self-guided walk around town with the help of a brochure from the Innisfail Visitors Information Centre.


The Practice


Our surgery is committed to patient care and providing the community with a high level of medical and skin cancer services.
Situated on the Esplanade with views of the Johnston River, in walking distance of the local hospital and Ambulance centre, and close proximity to medical services including pathology, radiology and pharmacies. Covering all aspects of General Practice including shared ante natal care, our surgery also has a strong focus on skin cancer care and treatment. We are a mixed billing surgery, offering bulk billing for pensioners and health care card holders. Appointments are available for insurance and commercial medicals, immunisations and travel medicine. Home visits to the local nursing and aged care facilities are provided on a regular basis.
Modern facilities with new and up to date equipment and the surgery is fully computerised, E-Health compliant, with experienced friendly staff.


Patient Information


Consultation fees


Consultation fees are displayed at reception. Standard consultation (level B) is $80 and long consultation (level C) is $140. We do not have accounts; full payment is required on completion of consultation. The surgery has eftpos facilities and is linked with Medicare for patient rebate payments. Bulk billing is available for Pensioners, Health Care Card holders and children under 16 years. Commercial medicals will attract a fee and are not bulk billed. Medicare card details supplied on mobile phones are only accepted with proof of identity. Please ask staff or your doctor about any costs at the time of your consultation as you may be responsible for fees including some vaccinations, skin cancer surgery and theatre costs.
All excisions for Pensioners and Health Care Card holders are bulk billed.


Appointments


The Surgery is open Monday to Friday 8.30am - 5.00pm. Last patient appointment each day is 3.30pm. Patients may book an appointment by phone or walk in, and will be allocated appointments according to availability and urgency. In order to keep waiting times to a minimum please inform reception staff if you require a longer appointment so a suitable time can be arranged.


Home Visits


For the elderly or disabled patients who are incapable of visiting the surgery, arrangements can be made with your current Doctor for a home visit. This is at your Doctor's discretion and may not be available immediately. Additional fees may apply for home visits, depending on distance and medical care required.
Services Available
Normal consultations are 15 minutes. Longer or special consultations (such as employment or insurance medicals) need to be pre-arranged. This surgery acquires the services of the TIS for non-English speaking patients; please inform staff if an interpreter will be required. The surgery is MyHealth record compliant.

The Position
The general practitioner is required to be appropriately trained and experienced in the discipline of general practice, and meet the required AHPRA Standards.
The general practitioner must hold current registration with AHPRA.
Preferable is Vocational Recognition through Fellowship with either the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners (RACGP) or the Australia College of Rural and Remote Medicine (ACRRM), or a recognised equivalent.
The general practitioner must abide by all legislative acts governing medical practice in Queensland.


Hours of work:


The surgery is open Monday to Friday 8am to 5pm.
An average of 40 hours per week is required.
Week end's and after hours is available.


The general practitioner will be required to provide evidence of:

  • Relevant and Australian recognised medical degree
  • Current and appropriate registration with the Medical Board of Australia. (AHPRA)
  • Applied knowledge, skills and experience in general practice as appropriate for the position.
  • Satisfactory participation in quality improvement and continuing professional development to at least the same standards as the Royal Australian College of General Practice's (RACGP) Quality Assurance and Continuing Professional Development (QA & CPD) Program.
  • Training in CPR, undertaken within the past three years.
  • Training in medical emergencies, undertaken within the past twelve months.
  • Current Medical Indemnity Cover.
  • A current Criminal Record Screening.
  • A current Australian Driver's License.
