General Manager
Cumberland Council is a newly amalgamated Council situated 20km west of Sydney and covers 72 square kilometres. It incorporates the former Holroyd City Council area, parts of the former Auburn City Council and part of Parramatta City Council area. It has a population of 240,000 making it the fifth most populous LGA in Greater Sydney.
Cumberland Local Government Area is one of the most culturally diverse areas in Australia. It is a western Sydney hub with a young, hard working population who aspire to our values of Welcome, Belong and Succeed.
We are seeking a General Manager with enthusiasm and drive to lead a multi-disciplinary team in the delivery of services and projects that serve the needs of local communities. The successful applicant will have the ability to engage and inspire people to deliver the expected outcomes for Council and the Cumberland Community. Your well-developed interpersonal skills and political astuteness will enable you to have a positive influence with all stakeholders with whom you interact.
To be effective in this role you will be expected to have:
Extensive leadership experience at the executive level
Extensive experience in driving and successfully implementing change in a large service-oriented Organisation, preferably in local government or the public sector
Demonstrated experience in people, operational, financial and risk management
Experience in, and a sound understanding of, the provision of facilities and services to a fast growing, culturally diverse community
Business acumen and sound judgement
A sound understanding of the legal framework under which a local government authority operates
A sound understanding of the current social, political and economic issues facing local government
Appropriate tertiary qualifications
A competitive performance-based package will be negotiated.
