RSSB is an expert body that helps the rail industry collaborate to continuously improve and meet future challenges. It spans the whole railway, including in its membership infrastructure companies, train and freight operators, rolling stock owners and suppliers to the industry. RSSB supports rail in the areas of safety, standards, knowledge, innovation and a wide range of cross-industry schemes.

We are looking for a Head of Finance to join us during this key time, to support the development of our financial strategy and to prepare and plan for the future whilst continuing to ensure a culture of financial sustainability and value for money to our membership. Day to day, you will lead the Finance team ensuring the appropriate provision of support to RSSB, ensuring high standards of compliance and control, and embracing a value-for-money culture whilst addressing the varying needs of the business. You will also provide strategic oversight to the Procurement function and support the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) in shaping the future direction for RSSB, supporting major strategic projects and developing and maintaining relationships with key internal and external stakeholders 

The role will see you providing advice and guidance on key issues such as tax, accounting treatment and formation of the annual group financial accounts; leading and supporting the preparation of Group Accounts for year-end audit and ensuring the successful implementation of project accounting with support from the team.

You will be a fully qualified accountant (ACCA/ ACA preferable) with substantial financial experience across a range of sectors and demonstrable experience of strategic decision making and of supporting and developing strategic financial planning processes in complex environments.

You will be comfortable interpreting and analysing financial figures and will have good working knowledge of tax, VAT NIC, Corporation tax and Internal Controls as well as up to date working knowledge of reporting standards (FRS102) and awareness of UK GAAP and IFRS. Experience of successfully managing a team is essential to the role as is a strong communication and leadership style and the ability to build effective working relationships and gain a high-level of engagement through influencing and negotiating to achieve positive outcomes.
