Austin Health is the major provider of tertiary health services, health professional education and research across 3 campuses in the northeast of Melbourne and state-wide. Austin Health is world-renowned for its research and specialist work in cancer, liver transplantation, spinal cord injuries, neurology, endocrinology, mental health and rehabilitation. An exciting opportunity currently exists for an enthusiastic and experienced Psychiatric Enrolled Nurse to join our Transition Support Unit TSU).
The TSU is a 10 bed mental health community residential unit located at the Heidelberg Repatriation Hospital Campus in Heidelberg.
Primary aims included:
- Improving mental health outcomes, behaviour management, social skills and recovery for people with complex care needs, including dual disability, who require medium/long-term (average 1-3 years) residential care.
- Accommodating clients who would benefit from a therapeutic support and recovery focused model of care but do not require an intensive clinical environment
- Providing a progressive transitional environment for clients, assisting the person as far as possible to re-integrate, back into the community
As a TSU PEN you will be responsible for:
- Supporting TSU clients in personal recovery activities
- Providing nursing care for clients as described in their individual recovery plans
- Assisting maintaining a tidy and therapeutic TSU environment
- Working effectively within a multidisciplinary clinical team
- Practices within a professional and ethical nursing framework in accordance with the policies of the organisation
- Participate in groups and activities provided for clients, by members of the multi- disciplinary team
- Liaise with carers and families
To be successful in this role you must demonstrate:

- Minimum of two years clinical mental health experience
- Demonstrated knowledge of recovery and collaborative clinical practice.
- Flexible to shift work
- Knowledge of the Mental Health Act 2014 and other legislation relevant to the public mental health service
- Ability in community based assessment, risk assessment, rehabilitation and management of consumers with learning difficulties
- Ability to work unsupervised and manage time effectively
- A patient focused approach to care and commitment to working with consumers and carers
