The Firm
This award-winning, newly-created firm located in the Maidstone area is one of the largest in the South East. It is particularly known for its specialist work in public-sector matters, taking instruction from local authorities and community organisations and has an extremely ambitious growth strategy. A vacancy has now arisen for a financial controller to join the accounts team.
The Role
Unusually, the firm is more or less a start-up business but at the same time has come into being with an extremely substantial multi-million pound turnover, a large staff of fee-earners, and a substantial national presence. The role of financial controller is therefore integral to the firm`s success.
You will be joining a team of five and reporting to the senior accountant and will be responsible for day to day compliance with the Solicitors Accounts Rules, cash forecasting and management and liaising with the financial director and the senior team to ensure that the business plan is delivered. The role includes all general financial reporting, including preparing the monthly board pack and the annual statutory accounts ready for auditing and internal reporting; budgeting and updating the same; analysis of time recording and WIP; maximising cash flow through credit and debt control; preparing corporation tax computations, undertaking tax planning and preparing VAT returns.
The Candidate
You will have solid experience in a similar role within a major law firm (preferably, within a firm that has sustained a period of rapid growth) and be looking to advance your career with an ambitious, expanding firm;
Have a good academic background with at least a strong 2:1 degree and a recognised accounting qualification such as ACA;
Excellent IT and Excel knowledge, and the ability to program in VBA would be an advantage;
Management experience, overseeing a reasonably-sized finance team.
