Functional / Technical Competencies (Essential)

  • A good understanding of risk management within banking, specifically within the compliance area.
  • Ideally candidates possess good working understanding of banking IT frameworks and support services, e.g. accounting approaches, IT infrastructure, applications, systems architecture, payments, operations, etc.
  • Strong commitment to customer focus. Experience in building effective business relationships.
  • Global perspective, demonstrates inclusiveness through an appreciation of different perspectives and diversity.

Role Overview

  • Audit Directors are responsible for supervising all audit engagements assigned to them by the Head of Audit. The Audit Director will supervise audit teams in the scoping, planning and delivery of audit engagements. These teams will be made up of Senior Audit Managers, Audit Managers, Senior Auditors and Auditors.
  • Although the role does not involve direct line management, it is expected that during the life-cycle of an engagement the Audit Director will manage the performance of the auditors on that work. This will include coaching and developing more junior team members.
  • The Audit Director is responsible for providing ongoing feedback to the audit team during and at the end of each engagement. Where performance issues have arisen with a member of the audit team, this must be formally escalated by the Audit Director to the auditor's line manager.
  • Assist Business Heads to produce an audit plan for their business area and maintain appropriate documentary evidence that the plan is risk based and provides the full entity coverage.
  • Utilise subject matter expertise, knowledge of the business and wider industry knowledge to influence the risk assessments applied across all areas.
  • Set appropriate continuous monitoring assignments by the Head of Audit.
  • Work on strategy and approach papers for entities and all relevant risks.

Key responsibilities

  • Supervising all audit engagements assigned by the Head of Audit.
  • The Audit Director will supervise audit teams in the scoping, planning and delivery of audit engagements.
  • Deliver final draft Audit reports to the Head of Audit.
  • Be able to demonstrate appropriate coverage of the key risks in each audit in all parts of the plan.
  • Agreeing draft Management Action for reports and checking for robustness of actions and proposed timelines prior to the approval by Head of Audit.
  • Follow up and report on the implementation status of action points. This may involve undertaking or leading the testing of remediated controls.
