Financial Investigations Practice
Kroll's Financial Investigations Practice operates offices in Dubai, Hong Kong, Tokyo, London, New York, Singapore and Shanghai. We have successfully investigated a broad range of issues, including suspicions of internal and external fraud, bribery and corruption, IP infringement and accounting irregularities. Kroll works with clients to determine how the incident occurred, who was responsible, and to plan and implement an asset recovery or loss mitigation strategy.
The Associate will be based in Shanghai and primarily work on active caseloads as part of teams on each client-related matter. The role will be responsible for gathering preliminary information and data using a variety of sources and databases, and carrying out detailed analyses which will form the basis of the client work. The role requires a high level of organizational ability, excellent verbal and written communication skills, and a commercially-focused and analytical approach.
Responsibilities
- Perform field work necessary for case development by gathering, processing and reviewing a variety of information to produce high quality and thorough analysis. Tasks may include (but not limited to);
- Reviewing subject emails, contracts and other documentation, with the aim of finding key information and patterns to support case development
- Reviewing financial information and cross checking against relevant documentation
- Reviewing fraudulent paperwork and documentation
- Data entry and analysis of electronic data
- Reviewing existing company procedures and documenting existing processes
- Note taking and formalising notes of interviews
- Conducting desk-based research using various public domain sources
- Prepare workpapers setting out in-depth and detail-orientated analysis.
- Analyse and interrogate large amounts of financial data and present findings coherently using Excel.
- Effectively feedback the findings and analysis to the Case Manager in a logical and structured manner, identifying potential issues and potential avenues of further analysis.
- Produce initial drafts of well-structured, logical and objective reports, or sections of reports, presenting the research or analysis in a client-focused manner.
- Provide diagrammatic and pictorial explanations to present key findings and patterns identified in investigations, using Excel and PowerPoint.
- Organise case files, maintain accurate research records and record all billable costs.
- Support the growth of the Financial Investigations Practice through involvement in non-case-related projects and initiatives, such as research or preparation of presentations.
Requirements
- Internationally-recognized accounting qualification (achieved or currently being undertaken), with some compliance or forensic experience.
- Experience of working in a reputable professional or financial services firm, or from an investigative/research intensive organisation with previous experience of client interactions.
- A skeptical, analytical, inquisitive and logical mind.
- Advanced Microsoft office skills, with proven experience in using Word, Excel and PowerPoint. Data analytics skill will be a plus.
- Excellent report writing skills.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English and Chinese/Cantonese will be a distinct advantage.
- Ability to work in a non-structured environment whereby the nature of client engagements differs week to week.
- Ability to work unsupervised and pro-actively communicate with Case Managers as appropriate.
- Identify own learning needs and opportunities to continuously seek to improve case-work performance.
- The position may require extensive international travel.
