Professionals within the Legal Department provide high quality legal, transactional and regulatory advice, litigation oversight, and advise on compliance and reputational issues. In many cases, our lawyers, along with other professionals, assist the business areas in structuring transactions in order to capitalize on business opportunities while managing risk .

The Legal Department is looking for an experienced lawyer with financial services technology expertise and experience, to be part of the Technology, Intellectual Property and Contracts team tasked with advising, structuring and negotiating index licensing and market data arrangements across regions, together with other technology and intellectual property-related transactions. This position offers an opportunity to work closely with stakeholders across the firm, including in the technology division as well as with various business teams globally. This role will also interact closely with colleagues throughout the firm's control functions in order to provide legal support in connection with the development of new products, services and capabilities and to provide subject matter expertise on a wide range of services and transactions.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND QUALIFICATIONS Role/Responsibilities
  • Arrangements in scope will include: (i) supplier agreements for the provision of a wide range of business, technology and data services and products to Goldman Sachs, with particular focus on multi-jurisdictional index licensing and market data agreements; (ii) the provision by Goldman Sachs of technology and IP related services to its clients; and (iii) the development and commercialization of IP assets.
  • Responsible for drafting, reviewing, negotiating and advising in relation to a range of commercial and technology contracts, typically subject to English law.
  • Responsibilities also include advising on contracting strategies and structures, legislative developments and Goldman Sachs fin-tech product development.
  • Act as strategic partner to relevant business units in planning of supplier engagements, and in managing existing suppliers.
  • Engaging and managing foreign counsel in relation to contracts subject to foreign law.
  • Extensive contact with Goldman Sachs business personnel and legal staff, globally, and with external suppliers.

Qualifications and Skills
  • Maturity, decisiveness and sound judgement are required. Candidates should have at least 6-8 years post-admission experience in a leading law firm or financial institution.
  • Significant experience is required in negotiating and advising on multi-jurisdictional index licensing and market data arrangements and other technology services contracts.
  • Good understanding of supplier engagement processes (RFP's, contract structures), preferably on an international basis, is required.
  • Experience in advising financial institutions in relation to electronic trading arrangements (e.g. trading platforms, settlement and reporting systems, etc.)
  • In -house experience would be advantageous ( including via relevant secondments ).
  • Ability to prioritise conflicting demands is necessary.
  • Excellent communication skills required, both oral and written, with an ability to communicate effectively with senior management.
  • Ability to work with autonomy, while remaining part of team.
  • Flexible approach, with the ability to respond to client demands while adhering to firm policies and practices and appropriate escalation procedures.
