The key objective of the LEC team is to ensure accurate financial accounting and reporting under IFRS, both for Group consolidation, and on a statutory basis. For the UK subsidiaries the team manages the annual statutory accounts and audit process, and delivers to each entity's Board a comprehensive finance presentation covering both financial reporting (actuals and projections) and financial management.
Key Responsibilities
The primary responsibility of the role is to manage for all entities within scope, monthly closing, annual statutory accounts and audit, delivery of high quality Board reporting, and the oversight of the financial management for each entity. Strong leadership skills and management experience is essential, as is a desire to shape the strategy for the team.
Responsibilities include:
- Organise the team effectively to achieve an efficient, timely closing for all entities, focused on key risk areas. This includes thorough planning, effective delegation, identifying and resolving reporting issues, and managing communication effectively with all stakeholders (finance, business and operations).
- Sign off the monthly/quarterly financial accounting, reporting and controls for the subsidiaries and SPVs under IFRS, including oversight of the offshore owned entities.
- Review, challenge and validate all entity reporting for presentation to entity Boards and Finance management.
- Assessing and understanding the wider picture - challenging the financials and being able to “tell the story”
- Clarity of understanding and articulation of accounting issues affecting the entities. Understanding boundaries of the team's responsibilities, whilst collaborating with others to ensure risks are addressed
- Well defined communication within and across Finance teams, knowing when and how to escalate, and to whom
- Stay abreast of evolving financial reporting and data integrity requirements, and evolution of the legal entity structure and related business activity in the UK.
- Assess impact of these developments on the team's work and priorities. Shape and drive any changes needed, with full engagement of the team, involving necessary stakeholders.
- For new entities, ensure the team takes the lead in defining the accounting and control model.
- Identify efficiency opportunities, and prioritise and implement these.
- Work with Mumbai team to identify and agree on opportunities for change under the offshoring model.
- Financial management: Ensure that all financing matters (eg dividend, funding, capital structure) are well controlled and executed, involving all necessary stakeholders.
- Manage the annual financial statements process and in this respect act as key point of contact for auditors and Company Secretariat.
Essential Background / Knowledge
- Qualified accountant (ACA) with IFRS knowledge, specifically affecting financial services activity
- Proven track record in managing a team, including performance reviews and all other staff matters
- Experience of working as a legal entity controller with responsibility for a number of complex subsidiaries and SPVs
- Delivery of statutory accounts for financial services and investment entities in accordance with IFRS requirements, working to agreed deadlines
- Strong understanding of Capital Markets and Banking products, including their lifecycles, and their representation in the financial statements
- Presentation to senior management on accounting and reporting topics
- Experience of working in an accounting / reporting function within an investment bank (preferred), or equivalent audit experience from a Big Four firm.
