The program
Having good social connections are essential for all aspects of health, especially as we age. Red Cross supports older people who live alone or who have few social connections, people with disability and people recovering from mental illness to help improve their wellbeing. Red Cross provides daily telephone calls to check on the wellbeing of people who live alone and are at risk of an accident or illness that may go unnoticed.
The opportunity
Assisting with the delivery of Red Cross Telephone Support program, volunteers support clients with a morning welfare check phone call to ensure they are safe and connected while living independently at home. The calls can be made from the comfort of your home to clients who live in Western Australia.
To be successful in this role you will have excellent English communication and phone manners, have empathy for older people and people living with disabilities and you are always reliable and punctual.
Please note that Red Cross does allow children under the age of 18 to volunteer, however with consideration for Red Cross Child Safe Policy in order to ensure our younger volunteers are safe where they are not under the supervision of Australian Red Cross Staff, they need to be supervised by a parent or Guardian over the age of 18.
What this means for volunteering as a Telecross caller is that a parent or guardian would need to in essence become a volunteer as-well.
The impact
As a Telecross volunteer, you'll provide peace of mind and be a friendly voice to people who are elderly or have disability. Red Cross will ensure you have training, ongoing support and access to other opportunities within the World's largest humanitarian network.
