One two hour shift per week or fortnight, always between 7am-9am.
The program
Having good social connections are essential for all aspects of health, especially as we age. Red Cross supports older people who live alone by providing daily well being check phone calls to participants at risk of falls or sudden illness.
The program runs 365 days a year, and we call over 700 participants between 7 am and 9 am. When participants don't respond to calls, we begin emergency procedures to ensure they are OK.
The opportunity
This role suits someone aged over 18 who is an early riser and has a high level of English. Volunteers need to be able to engage well with older people and be perceptive to any issues that may be present.
The impact
As a Telecross volunteer, you'll brighten the life of someone suffering vulnerability by offering them reassurance and confidence that someone will always check that they are OK. Plus, our volunteers offer a friendly voice at the beginning of the day that may be the only one the participant hears that day. Red Cross will ensure you have training, ongoing support and access to other opportunities within the World's largest humanitarian network.
