An exciting opportunity for an experienced Lead Safety Engineer has been created to join our team in Milton. The successful candidate will be required to act as the product safety expert within the Australian Core Engineering organization, ensuring our safety programs are compliant with state and national legislation.

Your key responsibilities will include the following:

Create safety plans defining the necessary work to be done for the product safety assurance programs. Set up and maintenance of the product Hazard Logs. Providing support in the definition and description of safety related functions, development of hazards analysis and risk assessment, analysis and description of failure chains.

Develop and apportion safety requirements in concept and early design stage to prevent, eliminate or control hazards and risks SFAIRP. Anticipate, identify and evaluate hazardous conditions and practices. First point of contact for vehicle and system engineering, product/design/contract functions. Supporting the overall effort of identifying development gaps, assessing impact and risk and finding effective solutions together with relevant departments by means of design reviews.

Preparation of safety cases according to actual safety standards in railway industry, such as evaluation of functional diagrams from a safety point of view, safety analysis aimed at compliance verification with the safety requirements (including hazard rates calculation), definition of operational and / or maintenance measures for risk control, verification with selected procedures, documentation. Specialist point of contact with externals (validators, assessors, etc.) relating to safety issues.

Plan and manage safety workload commitments and deliverables. Report progress and escalate issues as required. Develop and manage the delivery of work packages with strategic partners. Management of suppliers and subcontractors regarding safety relevant issues.

Regular communication and alignment with applicable BT Global functions to maintain and develop best practice with respect to Product Safety.

Qualifications

It is expected you will have the following qualifications, experience and personal characteristics:

BSc degree or equivalent.

Minimum 5 years' experience in a similar role.

Working knowledge of Preliminary Hazards Analysis (PMA), Fault Tree Analysis (FTA), Failure Modes Effects and Criticality Analysis (FMECA) and other risk management tools.

Working knowledge of CENELEC standards EN50126/8/9.

Excellent communication skills.

Knowledge of State and National Rail Safety legislation and Safety Management Systems.
