As part of SanlamConnect, Succession Financial Planning (SFP) is a financial services provider with a focus on the Registered Financial Adviser (RFA), looking to grow a professional practice while offering holistic financial planning to their clients. SFP is a wholly-owned subsidiary of the Sanlam Group.

What will you do?

The position heads up the Short Term insurance (STi) channel within SFP. The role is responsible to establish, structure and grow this channel including;
1. Create and drive the STi strategy and Value Proposition for SFP
• Understand the Sanlam Life Savings and SanlamConnect, and specifically the SFP strategy
• Understand the strategy and value drivers in order to ensure alignment of the STi strategy with the SFP strategy; and the national sales/marketing focus areas are in support of this strategy
• Serve as a member of the SFP EXCO and contribute to the ongoing leadership and management of the business as well as giving contributing towards the establishment and execution of the SFP strategy and vision
2. Drive recruitment, deals and acquisition of STi businesses
• Set and drive recruitment goals/plans of new & existing STi practices, including drives sales targets and execution
• Be overall accountable for the achievement of the STi business plan
• Undertake regular regional visits and engage with Regional Managers as well as STi brokers to get feedback and drive initiatives, give support and assist in resolving issues
• Coach and develop the Regional Managers
• Represent SFP on STi solution development and input with short term solution providers
3. Support national marketing and sales initiatives
• Create and drive short-medium term plan to build and capacitate the necessary infrastructure in order to set-up and leverage the business forward
• Communicate the strategy nationally (within each region) and get understanding and buy in for it from Regional Managers and STi brokers
• Based on the business plan, contract sales targets, recruitment targets and marketing strategies per region with Regional Managers
• Build strategic partnerships within the wider SanlamConnect the Short Term solution providers (i.e.: Santam, A&G, etc) to ensure support and alignment to a STi strategy
• Report back and be accountable to SFP for the success of the strategy
4. Build partnerships (key account status) leading STi Product Providers in the industry
• Identify and engage with main industry STi Product Providers 50+). Build partnerships and closer working relations to acquire Key Account status. Utilise this for better negotiations and leverage (i.e.: reduction in exposure risk)
• Work closely with the Practice Development Consultants to ensure a smooth synergistic relationship in the IFA/broker practices
• Attend and host client engagement opportunities in Succession Short term.
5. Ensure compliance within the STi channel
• Ensure STi Planning advice risk management and compliance (including Key Individual).
• Develop, refine and implement SFP STi policy/house view
• Drive ongoing awareness and attention to compliance within the STi practices
• Work closely with Compliance area to ensure all STi planning are undertaken compliantly by Advisors/Brokers
• Display the knowledge, understanding and adherence to all relevant regulatory and legislative laws/rules/ frameworks applicable to doing business compliantly
• Display the ability to interpret and adapt to regulatory/legislative changes that affect sales

6. Manage expenses and drive profitability within the channel
• Ensure that clear and robust budgets and expense management is undertaken for the STi operation
• Drive these expense budgets through the Regional Managers
• Consult, assimilate and draft the annual budget for review and approval
• Manage and control the budget by monitoring expenses and costs against budget throughout the month (with assistance from SFP Head of Finance)

What will make you successful in this role?

Qualification & experience
• Sound Financial Services experience at a senior level within the corporate environment. Preferably worked within a Sales and Distribution environment.
• 10 years+ Short Term insurance experience
• Sound management and leadership experience. Preferably Management diploma
• Financial/Business/Legal degree
• Key Individual, Fit and Proper, CFP
