Job overview

We are looking for a talented Finance Manager to lead the neurosurgical side of the Queen Square division. The Finance Manager will be part of the Specialist Hospitals Board finance team at Queen Square and will help ensure the consistent achievement of financial performance and outcome targets that support the delivery of high-quality patient care. You will be expected to work in a way that facilitates collaborative partnerships to achieve the Trust's strategic vision.

The successful candidate will be expected to make an active contribution to the running of the finance function, generating service improvement ideas and deputising as and when required for the Senior Finance Manager. You will be a strong communicator and will be able to work with non-finance staff to present complex financial information in ways which will ensure engagement and understanding.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will support and advise the Queen Square Division and the Senior Finance Manager in the full range of financial advice and support required. The post holder will provide management accounting information and support to the budget holders within the Queen Square Division of the Trust, under the line management of the Senior Finance Manager. They will have line management responsibilities for two Management Accountants. A particular responsibility will be the provision of timely resource management information to the budget holders with which the role is linked and to assist in the provision of comprehensive financial management information and advice to a range of areas within the Trust.

The post holder will undertake the analysis of the Divisions financial position - for monthly variance analysis and monthly forecasting.

Knowledge and Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • CCAB qualified or equivalent qualification and current professional registration
  • Postgraduate management qualification or equivalent experience
  • Advanced IT skills including Excel and Word. Expected to design and create reports using financial spread sheets and databases and familiar with the use of ledger systems
Experience

Essential criteria
  • Substantial experience in reconciliation and balances, financial processes, computer systems and ledgers, complex financial reporting, and financial forecasting through scenario planning
  • Experience of working with Finance
  • Experience of working in Health Sector
  • Have experience of work undertaken unsupervised
Desirable criteria
  • Experience of working in acute NHS trust
Skills and Abilities

  • Possess excellent interpersonal skills and communication skills
  • The ability to communicate effectively across staff groups
  • Be able to build effective working relationships
  • Ability to analyse, investigate and interpret numerical data
  • Ability to develop complex, contentious financial data and reports into a format which can be easily understood by all levels and professions within the Trust.
  • Interest in and capability with figures and financial calculations, and ability to interpret figures to support proposals and decisions.
