About the role
Balfour Beatty are looking to recruit a newly-qualified Accountant to join a dynamic, fast-paced, flat Group Finance team who are passionate about making change and contributing to the Group's recovery to a market-leading position!
This role is based on a hybrid work pattern out of our Canary Wharf office.
What you'll be doing
As a Group Financial Accountant you will have the following responsibilities:
- Assist the Head of Reporting by understanding and taking responsibility for implementing and maintaining certain technical areas as required, such as (but not necessarily):
- Pensions accounting and coordination of information from BB pensions department and external actuarial advisor to produce monthly reporting, forecasts and budgets.
- Share-based payments accounting involving working with various parts of the business to produce monthly reporting, group forecasts and budgets, and to prepare the necessary disclosures for the Group’s annual report.
- Ongoing ad hoc technical accounting support to senior management on accounting for corporate transactions, including acquisitions, disposals, refinancing options.
- Testing BB’s financial covenants at every reporting period and on an ad-hoc basis to ensure BB are in compliance.
- Technical analysis and quantification of the effect of emerging accounting and financial issues.
- Various half-year and year end reporting areas including: the Group cash flow statement, goodwill and intangible asset impairment reviews, acquisition and disposals and pensions.
- Provide analysis for senior financial and non-financial management and other ad hoc analyses.
Who we're looking for
Essential skills and experience required:
- Business Degree, ACA or relevant post-graduate qualification.
- Expert ability in Excel in relation to data manipulation and reporting (on-the-job training is provided but a high core competence is a significant advantage).
- An ability to understand, interpret and analyse financial and non-financial information.
- Very strong analytical capability and excellent business writing skills.
- A proactive, self-starter, with natural intelligence, who enjoys taking on responsibility.
- Ability to collaborate effectively in a team environment but willing to act on own initiative.
- Ability to influence and persuade.
- Drive, attention to detail and a ‘can-do’ attitude.
- Confidence in interactions with senior management.
- Well organised and structured thinker, at ease with recurring and ad hoc workloads.
