We are currently looking for an VAT Compliance Assistant Manager to join an exciting service line, with excellent client service skills and a love of UK VAT particularly cross-border transactions and overseas traders. This role will be based from our London office.

You will be joining the Outsourcing team within a full-service firm, servicing a diverse range of international and UK clients.

This management role in a growing area of the business will take ownership of a portfolio of clients and share responsibility of the management of a strong team of financial outsourcing professionals. They will have a focus on VAT Compliance, working with a range of UK VAT registered businesses based in the UK and overseas.

Key Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Management of the team members servicing the Manager’s portfolio of clients, ensuring all output is accurate and consistent whilst creating a positive and enjoyable working environment.
  • Responsibility of a portfolio of clients with varying sizes and requirements, ranging from VAT return preparation through to management accounts and advisory work offering a more bespoke service when requested by the clients.
  • A focus on clients facing cross-border VAT matters, including import VAT, PIVA and cross-border trading of goods and services.
  • Supporting the Outsourcing Partners and Directors to implement the firm’s vision for servicing clients and managing the team, helping with the department’s cloud-based approach for client working.
  • Managing tight deadlines and client expectations, requiring a highly organised and pragmatic approach.
  • Cascade client visions and requirements to the team to deliver against high expectations whilst maintaining accuracy. This must be carried out at the same time as meeting financial budgets and internal targets.
  • Internal relationship building across all departments within Menzies in order for the company to deliver a joined-up service for the clients from the outsourcing services, through to statutory accounts, tax planning and any other relevant areas.

The Person:

The successful candidate will relevant and current Outsourcing experience / Financial Controller level experience if in industry. They will have knowledge of producing Management Accounts and commentary for business owners; and also managing a team and handling the day-to-day issues involved

Required skills & Experience:

  • ACA or ACCA Qualified preferable.
  • Excellent working knowledge of cloud-based accounting systems
  • Experience in designing and implementing financial systems and controls, useful not compulsory.
  • Solid technical accounting knowledge
  • Strong communication skills
  • Ability to motivate and develop a team.
  • Adaptable to varying client needs.
  • Effective client relationship builder
  • Strong commercial business acumen
  • Extensive knowledge of UK VAT system and cross-border trade
  • Demonstrates Best Practice approach to all tasks and assignments.
