The City Council has a unique and critical role in local government: it is the largest local authority in Ireland, with 63 Elected Members representing and serving 588,000 people in the city area. It plays a pivotal role in the provision of services to the almost 1.5 million people in the Dublin Region.

The Head of Finance is a senior leadership position in Dublin City Council and a member of the Corporate Senior Management Team. The successful candidate will be expected to contribute to the development and implementation of forward-thinking strategies to deliver the full range of services provided to the highest standard. They will be aware of the environment in which the Council operates and be capable of demonstrating the necessary vision, leadership, and experience necessary for the position.

The successful candidate will demonstrate:

  • A career record that demonstrates the necessary senior level leadership and management skills to manage, develop and motivate a large multidisciplinary team with a strong record of achievement of results. Strong relationship management, interpersonal and communication skills with the capacity to work in close consultation with Council members and a wide range of stakeholders and committees to secure cooperation and consensus. A developmental view of Local Government, which encourages involvement and optimises local democracy and the use of existing powers and functions. Good analytical skills and a capacity to innovate in the interest of delivery of cost-effective services, with an excellent customer focus. Skills and capabilities in strategy and policy development. The ability to lead, foster and effectively implement appropriate change.

Essential Requirements:

  • Possess a professional accountancy qualification and be a member of a recognised body of accountants. Have 5 years relevant post qualification experience of accountancy work, including management accounting and financial accounting. Have satisfactory relevant experience at senior level leadership and in a managerial capacity.
