The role is within Depositary Operations helping to ensure that Northern Trust fulfils its oversight responsibilities under the Alternative Investment Fund Management Directive (AIFMD), UCITS V and other regulatory requirements.

The primary responsibilities will be in the area of Safekeeping of Assets and Asset Verification. This includes oversight of reconciliations between NT and its appointed sub-custodians, Limited Partnership documentation, collateral reconciliations, verification of “Other Assets” and a review of asset exposures in Restricted and Watch markets.

Major Duties

  • Review and co-ordinate the various tasks associated with Custody Reconciliations Oversight, managing queries with various stakeholders within the Custody Department;
  • Perform and review Asset Verification activities, sourcing appropriate documentation to verify ownership of the Fund over “Other Assets”;
  • Participate/chair on quarterly meetings with relevant parties to ensure Depositary Operations meet all governance requirements for assigned processes;
  • Review of exposure reporting on Market Oversight - Restricted/Watch Markets for multiple jurisdictions;
  • Involvement in change management of processes as required;
  • Review existing processes , identify gaps and suggest improvements;
  • Participating in ensuring governance procedures within the department are being adhered to;
  • Ensure new clients and new fund launches are incorporated into relevant processes;
  • Ensuring reporting requirements for both internal and external clients are achieved within agreed timeframes.

Knowledge/Skills

  • Detail-oriented and accurate;
  • Excellent understanding of Custody & Asset Verification;
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with internal and external parties;
  • Ability to work independently and cooperatively within a team environment;
  • Ability to drive change through initiative and collaboration;
  • Ability to review and approve other partner’s work;
  • Act as a subject matter expert or referral point for complex issues;
  • Interprets changes in circumstances, and suggests new processes where gaps identified;
  • Ability to test new processes or system developments;
  • Can deal confidently with clients.

Experience

  • Several years of experience in the Financial Services Industry;
  • Broad & detailed fund knowledge with an emphasis on Custody;
  • Good knowledge and command of MS Excel and good problem solving skills;
  • Good understanding of the relevant regulations & fiduciary responsibilities.
