Role/ Department:
As part of the Custody Tax Operations team, the Manager is at the centre of the International withholding tax processing, Reporting to the Core Operations Lead, responsibilities will be to ensure that team request, record and manage Northern Trust’s client tax documentation, and accurately identify, process and track tax reclaims on behalf of Northern Trusts global client base so as to ensure maximum tax benefits.
The key responsibilities of the role include:
- Managing people and providing opportunities and roadmap for development
- Organizes the work of the team, assigns tasks, sets short-term priorities, monitors all activities and ensures timely and accurate completion of the work
- Possesses the leadership and organizational skills required to prioritize assignments and provide feedback to staff.
- Manage the operational risk within the entire process, through the identification of risk points, adherence to procedures and that adequate skilled resources are maintained.
- Ensure tax reclaims are processed in a timely and accurate manner
- Monitor an closing out all queries within required deadlines
- Engaging with Global Sub Custodians and Tax Agents
- Engagement in Operational risk assessments
- Tracking and monitoring all tax technical changes
- Working closely with other Tax Operations Managers to ensure most effective and efficient processes in place
- Deliver regular and pertinent MIS to Core Operations Manager
- Attendance at Managers meetings
Skills/ Qualifications:
- Business/Tax or legal degree or similar qualification
- Fundamental technical knowledge of Tax Operations, gained through significant exposure to business disciplines, operating at a senior level.
- Leadership skills
- An understanding of the custodial responsibilities pertaining to withholding tax management
- Prior tax experience in the Financial Services area would be a distinct advantage
