Our Risk Advisory Team has two key sector focuses; Public Sector and Financial Services. This opportunity is to join our Public Sector Team who work across both our Sydney Office (CBD) and our Greater Western Sydney Office (Parramatta).
About the role
Due to our rapid growth, our Risk Advisory Services team in Sydney is seeking a Senior Manager to join our Internal Audit team on a permanent, full-time basis.
Your client portfolio will consist primarily of NSW State Government Organisations, across a range of Government Clusters. You will also have opportunities to work with Local and Federal Government Organisations, Not-For-Profits, and private sector clients.
This role will sit within our RAS leadership team, responsible for the delivery of RAS projects, client matters, building team performance at both an individual and team level and actively supporting the Partners/Directors in the day-to-day operation of the team.
Duties & responsibilities:
- Assist in building and mentoring a team of highly skilled internal audit and risk staff.
- Manage a varied portfolio of clients across a range of industry sectors, with a focus on risk, controls, and assurance.
- Supervise and undertake fieldwork and prepare written reports or deliverables of a high quality and standard, adhering to budgets and timelines.
- Understand and apply the firm's professional delivery standards to deliver high-quality, insightful advice and exceptional client service.
- Drive the development of new business solutions/service offerings.
- Drive the continuous improvement of current practice processes, tools, and methodologies.
- Coach and mentor junior members of the team.
- Drive growth initiatives and business development of the practice while working with Partners / Directors and other service lines across the broader BDO team.
About You

- A strong internal drive, a growth mindset, and aspirations for leadership opportunities
- High level of experience in a similar role gained within the professional services industry
- Certifications or qualifications relevant to the role (CIA, CA, CPA, CISA, PRINCE2, etc.)
- Experience with IIA Standards and Practices
- Experience with Enterprise Resource Management systems (e.g. SAP, Oracle, TechOne, etc.)
- Experience in developing strategic and annual internal audit plans, enterprise-wide risk assessments, and framework reviews.
- A natural business development aptitude with evidence of existing network of decision
- Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively (via reports, spreadsheets, presentations, emails, and in conversations), work in a multi-disciplinary team, manage engagements and deliverables
- Demonstrated ability to lead, or contribute to, the development of a team
- Strong working knowledge of key business risks and an understanding of IT related risks
- Significant experience in presenting to Senior Management, Boards, and ARCs.
