The Manager, Global Financial Controls is responsible for managing the Global Financial Control teams, which provide governance, oversight, and/or internal control testing of the Sarbanes-Oxley Act (SOX) program for Northern Trust Corporation in periodic filings of financial information with the Securities Exchange Commission (SEC), Service Organization Control Reports (SOC) program for Northern Trust business areas, and the Comprehensive Capital Analysis & Review (CCAR) program for Northern Trust Corporation. This is a leadership position in the Controller’s Group that reports directly to the Corporate Controller who in turn reports to the Chief Financial Officer. As a leader, this position will participate in performance management and career development processes, as well as staffing and disciplinary actions. This role is balanced between high level operational execution and development, and execution of the strategic direction of the global financial control team.
The key responsibilities of the role include:
- Oversee all aspects of the SOX and SOC program.
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with internal and external Auditors and business partners.
- Present internal control finding and status updates to various governance bodies including the Controls Committee, Disclosure Committee, Audit Committee, and other steering committees.
- As subject area expert, provide comprehensive, in-depth consulting and leadership to team and partners at a high technical level.
- Conduct performance management and career development processes, provide input for staffing and provide hands-on training to staff.
- Develop periodic goals, organize the financial control programs, set short-term priorities, monitor all activities, and ensure timely and accurate completion of the work.
- Develop and/or provide input and support to budget management process.
Skills / Experience:
- Demonstrated experience in the management of applicable internal control programs.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills with ability to build and manage relationships with partners at all levels.
- Ability to persuade and influence at all levels.
- Proven ability to proactively identify opportunities for improvement and implement value added solutions.
- Highly flexible and adaptable to frequent change.
- Leadership and organizational skills required to develop periodic goals and to manage and motivate team members towards the goals set.
- 8 - 10 years of experience working in public accounting or corporate internal control functions with an emphasis on financial services industry.
- Bachelor’s and/or Master’s degree, Accounting or Finance preferred.
- Qualified Accountant, Certified Public Accountant or Certified Internal Auditor a plus.
