Banking Controllers, the largest department in Finance, manages daily profit and loss reporting, balance sheet, and expenses across Investment Banking (Debt Capital Markets, Equity Capital Markets, Mergers & Acquisitions) and Corporate Lending products for Corporate and Commercial Banking clients. We work closely across functions daily (Trading Desk, Deal Teams, Risk Management, Operations, etc.) to understand product offerings, market risks, and accounting complexities.

The Investment Banking Senior Controller role ensures the completeness, accuracy, and integrity of the bank’s books and records, focusing on data integrity, general ledger reconciliation, and insightful analysis of Investment Banking P&L and Balance Sheet reporting.

Responsibilities:

  • Manage end-to-end Banking Controller processes, including daily P&L and Balance Sheet preparation for Debt Capital Markets, Equity Capital Markets, and Mergers & Acquisitions. 
  • Provide analytical insight around drivers of the financials.
  • Conduct complex analyses through data analysis tools and methodologies.
  • Apply a high level of attention to detail and work independently to solve issues, even complex ones.
  • Support standardization efforts and work on strategic as well as ad-hoc projects to improve Citi’s Banking Control system infrastructure and to implement process improvement ideas.
  • Effectively escalate and resolve issues promptly, driving enhancements for recurring issues.
  • Collaborate with colleagues, fostering a positive and results-driven team environment.
  • Utilize industry standards, tools, and methodologies for data analysis and decision-making.
  • Appropriately assess risk when business decisions are made, demonstrating consideration for the firm's reputation and safeguarding Citigroup, its clients, and assets, by driving compliance with applicable laws, rules, and regulations, adhering to polices, applying sound ethical judgment regarding personal behaviour, conduct and business practices, and escalating, managing, and reporting control issues with transparency.

Required qualifications & background:

  • 4-5 years of experience in finance, accounting, controlling, or similar department.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, or related field.
  • Master’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, or related field would be an advantage.
  • CFA, ACCA, CIMA, or equivalent professional certification would be an advantage.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with a keen attention to detail & advanced Microsoft Excel skills (training will be provided for in-house systems).
  • Excellent verbal and written English skills, with the ability to present financial data to senior management.
  • Understanding of investment banking products, markets, and economic factors influencing the industry.
  • Collaborative mindset, able to work effectively within teams and across departments.
