Audit Professional Standards
The Audit Professional Standards team is Grant Thornton Ireland’s centre of technical excellence for audit, assurance and financial reporting. Drawing on our strong relationships with regulators, standard setters, the people in our firm and wider Grant Thornton International network, we provide innovative, practical and robust solutions to auditing and financial reporting matters in addition to annual training that support audit engagement teams with the delivery of high-quality audits for their clients.
Financial Reporting Team
The financial reporting team primarily assist the audit practice with accounting and corporate reporting related consultations and compliance, “hot” reviews of annual reports and accounts prior to signing the audit report. These functions are associated with managing risk and the coaching of the audit practice with the aim of improving audit quality.
Team members will primarily be responsible for reviews of technical accounting queries, hot reviews and responding to mailbox queries, however, they will also be responsible for assisting more senior team members with activities relating to subject matter specialisms and other departmental activities. As a member of the financial reporting team, each member is expected to take ownership of their development in areas of technical accounting and corporate reporting, with the aim of becoming a subject matter specialist themselves.
Main responsibilities
This role will include the following, adapting as required to support the needs of the firm:
- Carrying out technical reviews of the financial statements medium & large UK-incorporated entities, included listed and public interest entities;
- Responding to technical queries raised by engagement teams on UK-adopted International Accounting Standards, UK GAAP and UK company law and regulation;
- Carrying out technical reviews of non-standard audit reports prepared under International or UK ISAs;
- Project-manage the standardisation of templates across various jurisdictions served by the firm;
- Preparation of guidance, including factsheets and templates, as a resource for teams carrying out UK engagements, including delivery of training on these where required; and
- Liaising with other departments, including those within the Risk, Compliance and Professional Standards team, such as Sustainability, Innovation and Legal, where tasks require input from several areas.
Required skills and experience
- Strong technical financial reporting skills
- ACCA / ACA qualified (or equivalent)
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively as part of a small team
- Ability to use own initiative
- Able to train and coach peers
- Confidence and ability to engage with senior staff and partners
- Strong communication skills, both oral and written
