KPMG’s International Tax practice is part of a globally connected network of professionals who work with multinational organisations to provide commercially focused advice on cross-border tax matters.
We help clients manage the complexities of meeting their tax obligations relating to multiple tax systems and supranational regulation around the world.
Position objectives
Joining the International Tax team, this role will see you:
- Developing relationships with inbound and outbound multinational clients, to gain an understanding of their businesses, and work with their tax and finance teams
- Leading multiple engagements of varying size and complexity
- Advising clients on complex cross-border tax matters
- Producing well-researched tax opinions, including coordinating multi-jurisdictional tax advice from KPMG member firms
- Providing guidance and mentoring to junior tax consultants
- Build networks across KPMG’s Tax & Legal division in Australia and our global network
The role requires strong commercial acumen with corporate tax and/or international tax experience.
Key Responsibilities:
- Analysing international tax issues and formulating technical advice for large domestic and international corporate and private groups.
- Structuring cross-border transactions – advice on the tax consequences of individual acquisitions, joint ventures and divestments in order to help develop structures.
- Advising clients on the latest guidance on various Base Erosion and Profit Shifting initiatives from the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development.
- Working with clients who have investments overseas to ensure best practice and compliance with the various revenue and other regulatory bodies globally.
- Reviewing tax treaties and understanding the tax regimes in different foreign jurisdictions and providing advice to clients on the impact of tax treaties on their business structures.
- Preparing and reviewing income tax returns for both domestic and international clients in Australia, including the preparation of the International Dealings Schedule, Reportable Tax Position Schedule and controlled foreign company calculations.
- ATO and FIRB liaison – assisting to respond to questions from the ATO and FIRB in relation to proposed transactions.
Qualifications
- Relevant tertiary qualifications in law or commerce with post-graduate study in accounting or tax.
- This role will suit a tax professional with corporate tax and/or international tax experience in either a professional or legal services firm (experience working in an in-house role will be considered).
- Ability to produce well-researched and clearly articulated tax opinions.
