Brief Description of the Role

Reporting to the Finance Manager – Systems and Projects, the individual will be responsible for finance administration and act as the key point of contact for the business. The role is responsible for the day-to-day updating of the finance system and managing the mailbox. The individual is required to respond to system queries in a timely manner. They will proactively contribute to the maintenance of a positive and open working environment. The individual will require very strong organisational and time management skills. They will ensure that interactions with all stakeholders are carried out in a courteous, patient and professional manner. There is an additional requirement for this role with regard to data cleansing and testing during the implementation of the new Finance system. This requires all data sets to be checked for accuracy and completeness. During the cutover period to which the organisation transitions to the new finance system additional testing will be carried out as part of this role.

Finance Administration

  • Contribute to a strong compliance culture by ensuring internal controls are maintained
  • Stakeholder support, efficient and effective query resolution
  • Manage the system mailbox effectively
  • The individual will manage the day-to-day updates to the finance system including ensuring day-to-day issues are managed and controlled:
  • Department and Cost centres set up/amendment and relations.
  • Projects, subprojects, and subaccounts set up/amendment and relations.
  • Supplier setup/amendment and relations.
  • Customer setup/amendment and relations.
  • Requisitions/PO amendments.
  • Contract set up
  • Substitutes.
  • PO workflow management.
  • Review and update system-based reports as required.
  • Review data quality and alignment with other relevant systems including HR and procurement
  • Support the update of KPI dashboards on a monthly basis
  • Identify Areas of Improvement where necessary
  • Design and monitor system testing as required
  • Ensure high-quality and up-to-date procedure documents are maintained for areas of responsibility
  • Document and map system processes and controls
  • Support Data cleaning
  • Support testing during the transition to the new finance system
  • Other ad-hoc duties as agreed.

Role Requirements & Key Competencies

  • Experience working with finance systems;
  • Strong controls and risk experience with experience in audit would be beneficial;
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills;
  • Strong attention to detail;
  • Strong organisational and administrative skills;
  • Capacity to proactively and constructively contribute to team tasks;
  • Strong MS Office and MS Excel skills; and
  • A ‘can-do’ approach with the ability to organise and prioritise workloads to meet deadlines.

What will I be doing

Typical activities include the following:

  • Working under the supervision of Associate Directors, Directors or Partners within Strategy and Transactions as well as other Ernst & Young departments in both Ireland and internationally on the following assignments:
  • Valuations
  • Business modelling
  • Strategic advice
  • Business planning & operational analysis
  • Mergers, buyouts and disposals
  • Due diligence
  • Working effectively as a team member by sharing responsibility, providing support, maintaining communication, and updating senior members on progress.
  • Understanding our client requirements, co-developing our approach with the client, and providing value to our clients through insights, factual conclusions, and advice.
  • Apply and document complex valuations methodologies.
  • Design, develop, and document complex business models.
  • Review Excel models under supervision and arrive at preliminary conclusions.
  • Understand, manipulate, and interpret financial data and client information, drawing appropriate conclusions.
  • Carry out relevant analysis and present your findings (both written and orally).
  • Gathering, verifying, and analysing information to formulate views.
  • Day-to-day progression of assignments to include; planning, preparing, and reviewing various forms of deliverables to include reports and presentations.
  • A focus on anticipating and identifying risks that require escalation and subsequently escalating these risks to more senior staff as appropriate.
  • Working closely with colleagues you will ensure that work is properly executed, documented, and concluded in compliance with our Quality & Risk Management guidelines.
  • Actively establishing, maintaining, and strengthening your internal and external relationships.
  • As an influential member of the team, you will help to create a positive learning culture. 
  • You will be responsible for mentoring and developing more junior members of staff and providing constructive feedback on both a formal and informal basis.
  • Maintaining and constantly upgrading technical knowledge and personal skills.

People responsibilities

  • Develop network of contacts (internal & external)
  • Seek regular feedback on individual assignments and regular guidance from counsellor
  • Manage own time to budgets and communicate progress against plan to assignment manager
  • Identifying issues and drawing to attention of Partner/Director and contributing to discussions

Technical skills requirements

  • Ideally you will have an accounting qualification - CA or equivalent;a sound grasp of Irish GAAP and/or IFRS and financial accounting, combined with a high level of business awareness and a strong understanding of the factors that drive financial performance
  • Highly numerate with a sound grasp of Excel and a natural interest in using it to help clients to better understand their business or to make better business decisions
  • A track record in valuations and/or financial modelling, experience of working in a professional services environment, and exposure to high profile transactions, would all be a distinct advantage
  • Familiarity with key valuation methodology and approaches and/or the ability to develop or formally review financial models is a pre-requisite
  • Additional technical skills such as Visual Basis or SQL and other programming languages would be an advantage

Additional skills requirements

  • Qualified with ACA, ACCA, or equivalent qualification
  • 3 years relevant experience
  • Minimum 2.1 degree, numeric subjects preferred
  • Strong interpersonal skills and client focus are important, as well as attention to detail and the ability to work under pressure
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Demonstrates organization and self management skills
  • Pro-actively manage own development
