Restructuring Advisory - Manager (3894)

Forvis Mazars cares about your career progression, offering individually designed career paths that help you pursue your interests, match your changing needs, and explore your true potential. We work with diverse, prestigious clients across a range of sectors and geographies, giving you the opportunity to constantly update and grow your skills for lifelong professional development.

About Restructuring Services

The Forvis Mazars Restructuring Services team comprises around 125 staff and partners nationally, working closely with:

  • Management, boards and shareholders of distressed companies to stabilise crisis situations, helping to turnaround underperforming businesses and (when necessary) help them to restructure and set their business on more stable financial footing; and
  • Lenders to companies in distress who require advice throughout a restructuring alongside analytical support and commercial insight.
About the role

As a Manager in the Restructuring Services team, you will be focussed on Advisory and Turnaround engagements and have the opportunity to work on a diverse range of projects across all sectors, with plenty of responsibility for contributing to key workstreams and supporting senior staff and partners in client-facing delivery.

Advisory and Turnaround operates as a smaller and specialist sub-team within the Forvis Mazars Restructuring Services national team. Our sub-team focusses on Independent Business Reviews (IBRs), short term cash flow reviews (STCF), solvent options analysis, lead advisory / restructuring and solution implementation. The latter sometimes involves transactional work such as Special Situation / Accelerated M&A processes.

The nature of Advisory and Turnaround work that you will get involved in may include:

  • Taking responsibility for significant parts of a client engagement, providing support to the director and/or partner to work with and manage external stakeholders. This will involve attending meetings, calls and project managing / driving the timelines to project completion.
  • Supporting our work by helping to prepare and / or (more often) challenge business plans, short term cash flow forecasts and medium-term projections (BS, P&L and Cash Flow)
  • Developing, analysing and presenting financial data / options in a restructuring context, actively liaising and using input from other Forvis Mazars teams, e.g. insolvency, tax, consulting, corporate finance, debt advisory and modelling.
  • Presenting financial / commercial analysis in client report deliverables. Being able to articulate your analysis in clear, succinct and well-structured English, distil key messages and potential implications for our clients.
  • Managing junior team members on client engagements, supporting their development needs, coaching, sharing your experience and instilling best practice across the Advisory and Turnaround service offering.
  • Liaising with other advisors, such as the Company's lawyers to understand key aspects of legal documentation that inform our own work or valuers in understanding how the value of a business or asset may affect outcomes and returns for stakeholders.
  • Understanding and actively managing the Firm's risk from take-on through to completion and closure of engagements.

We expect you to actively support business development activities, starting to build your own contact network and supporting director/ partner-led marketing and sales activities. This may include:

  • Participating in existing business development programmes and key client accounts (e.g. Funders, Lawyers and Private Equity).
  • Identify opportunities and conduct market and client research to generate new work leads as well as opportunities to provide wider services to existing clients.
  • Take responsibility for leading marketing initiatives aimed at specific channels to market, or events.

You will be actively supported in the team through:

  • Formal training courses
  • On-job coaching and development
  • Active development through appraising and one to one mentoring
  • Support via wider RS and Advisory & Consulting training initiatives / training
What are we looking for?
  • Qualified Chartered Accountant i.e. ACA / ACCA;
  • Minimum of 3-4 years working in a Restructuring Advisory practice in the UK
  • Very strong analytical skills (including strong Excel skills);
  • A basic understanding of UK insolvency legislation and practice is not a prerequisite but helpful;
  • Excellent interpersonal skills;
  • Good written communication skills;
  • Strong project management skills;
  • Commitment and willingness to work under pressure, sometimes long hours, always putting the client at the centre;
  • Ambition to learn and develop further; and
  • Ability to conduct business in fluent oral and written English is a pre-requisite.
