We are looking for a talented and motivated professional to play a leading role in the development of global guidance, communications and training for engagement teams that audit banks.

As part of KPMG’s commitment to enhancing audit quality, this position supports the core activities of the International Standard Group’s (ISG) Global Banking Audit Quality team, including developing audit guidance; managing the global banking audit network; developing and delivering training; and coordinating interactions with banking regulators and KPMG engagement teams.

In this position, you will:

  • Strengthen your knowledge, understanding and ability to apply applicable auditing standards (and KPMG audit methodologies) to various aspects of bank audits
  • Enhance the depth and breadth of your understanding of KPMG International policies, procedures, groups, initiatives and strategies
  • Have opportunities to interact and build robust working relationships with audit quality teams across the KPMG network, including with global audit quality leadership and peers, regional and local departments of professional practice (DPPs)
  • Have opportunities to build your profile within KPMG’s banking network, including interactions with sector leaders and peers
  • Enhance your project management, professional writing, confidence in presentations, strategic planning/thinking, considered messaging (including external messaging) and problem-solving skills.

Role and responsibilities:

  • Develop, maintain and communicate global banking audit guidance and work papers
  • Coordinate audit quality initiatives in the global banking audit network, including the Global SIFI network and the global banking audit forum – e.g., plan and lead workshops with audit teams, and present on various audit quality topics and emerging areas
  • Apply your subject matter expertise to review audit material developed by other global groups, provide sector input into wider audit quality areas/ initiatives and respond to queries from member firms
  • Develop training materials and deliver training, which includes coordination with global and regional learning and development teams
  • Collaborate effectively with various groups across the KPMG network including the Global Audit Methodology Group, regional and local DPPs, other ISG audit quality and accounting teams, banking audit teams and specialists to deliver various audit quality initiatives for banks –
  • Support interactions with banking regulators, which includes preparing supporting materials for KPMG representatives attending meetings
  • Develop thought leadership on emerging areas for banks – e.g., Environmental, Social and Governance matters
  • Work with the partner/ director on setting the team’s strategic initiatives
  • Provide coaching to more junior staff members

Leadership & Management:

  • Effectively collaborate with leadership and personnel from other global teams, communications and other global groups to enhance audit quality on bank audits
  • Network and build collaborative relationships with senior leadership across the KPMG global network

Stakeholder Interaction & challenges:

  • Represent the ISG on global banking audit quality matters and present to virtual or in-person groups of up to 300+ professionals
  • Take a leading role in the development of audit quality updates and training,
  • Contribute as an industry subject matter expert by presenting at global, regional and member firm events
  • Provide ad-hoc technical assistance through query responses
  • Nature of the challenges and complexities of the role may include:
    • Identifying and responding to the needs, and managing expectations, of a variety of stakeholders
    • Timely coordination of projects and queries, between local teams and professionals based around the network
    • Establishing yourself as a KPMG subject matter expert and spokesperson to contribute to the development of comprehensive, high-quality guidance and training

  • This is a high-profile global role, with the guidance and tools used across the global KPMG network by thousands of audit professionals
  • Our deliverables must be technically accurate, relevant, user focused and timely to support global consistency in application by KPMG audit professionals
  • You will play a key role in the development and maintenance of guidance relating to bank audits, including appropriately following the relevant governance and quality management processes

The Person:

Essential experience

Technical skills and qualifications

  • Possess a professional qualification - ACA, ACCA, CPA or equivalent
  • Proven technical competence - Ability to handle technical audit matters, strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Demonstrable in-depth knowledge of the banking sector, including accounting and audit matters

Non-technical skills

  • Personal effectiveness: Strong organisational skills, ability to successfully manage projects on own, work effectively within teams and independently and a commitment to continuous improvement
  • Strong communication skills: Ability to explain complex ideas simply, convey key messages convincingly, professional writing and confidence in presentations
  • Ability to work collaboratively with others including from diverse backgrounds/ countries
  • Strong desire to enhance audit quality for bank audits across the KPMG network
  • Commitment to building the reputation of KPMG through the quality of work, knowledge and experience

Experience relevant to the role

  • Experience working on bank audits – this preferably includes current or previous audit experience on a large global or local bank audit, and experience auditing either expected credit losses or fair value measurement of financial instruments
  • Experience handling a range of technical audit matters on bank audits (including the application of international accounting and audit standards)
  • Experience in collaborating with multiple stakeholders
  • Preferably experience in deploying or monitoring audit quality initiatives – e.g., delivering training, supporting coaching programmes, supporting local audit quality initiatives
