Knowledge & Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Educated to degree level, with a strong academic record.
  • CCAB qualified accountant/finalist or equivalent knowledge and experience in a relevant finance role.
  • Post graduate level education of a financial nature.
Experience

Essential criteria
  • Proven and substantial NHS experience within a finance function.
  • Detailed technical knowledge of NHS finance, including costing and income.
  • Demonstrate experience of developing and reporting on cost improvement / productivity schemes
  • Understands rationale for Standing Financial Instructions and has experience of ensuring that they are adhered to
  • Experience of using General Ledger and Financial reporting software packages
  • Able to work unsupervised and take decisions with minimal reference to line manager.
  • Able to draw inferences from large complex information and data sets which could have major implications for Trust policy and decision making.
  • Able to work confidently with large volumes of data of variable quality, presenting outputs in a clear way to enable understanding by finance, operational and clinical staff.
Desirable criteria
  • Detailed knowledge of the operation of NHS Service Line Reporting.
  • Experience of people management

  • Excellent inter-personal skills, including the ability to communicate with all levels of non-finance staff (including clinicians) from budget holders to Directors both internal and external to the Trust.
  • To report findings to others in the most appropriate and easily understood manner both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to enable quick understanding of complex financial concepts and processes to a very high level and to be able to continuously develop and improve such processes.

  • Ability to deliver training clearly and concisely, on complex financial concepts to both finance and non-finance staff.
  • Ability to manage, lead &/or work as part of teams.
