Job Description

Job Title: Assistant Financial Accountant

Location: Head Office, Leicester

Salary: £35,000 - £45,000 plus benefits

This is a fantastic opportunity to join the Financial Accounting team within Group Finance at a FTSE 100 listed company. Working within the team you will have responsibility for preparing information on the group’s financial results and will work closely with our Brand finance team in preparing monthly management accounts, forecasts and the Group’s budget process. 

Focused and dynamic, you’ll have the opportunity to work across our main trading business, including the opportunity to help shape the financial reporting of our Total Platform division. 

What will you actually be doing? 

  • To provide support within the Financial Accounting team (a team of 7). You will have responsibility for preparing and reviewing balance sheet reconciliations, supporting the modernisation of our finance system, monthly reporting and the seasonal budgeting process. You will help to pull together the half year and year end reporting and accounts for Next Retail and Next Distribution divisions. You will help build and implement the internal reporting framework for the business as it expands and develops new sales opportunities within Total Platform and Total Enterprise Platform 
  • In a varied role you will have the opportunity to work through the full financial cycle and during the Group’s year end you will liaise with our external auditors, supporting the preparation of the Annual Report and Accounts for a FTSE 100 business. 
  • With strong attention to detail your focus will be to ensure that information is promptly recorded, reconciled, reviewed and ultimately suitable for consolidation into our monthly board reporting. 

So, who’s right for the job? 

  • You are a part qualified accountant with experience of monthly financial reporting and Financial systems.
  • You will have demonstrable experience of; managing month-end, undertaking balance sheet reconciliations, providing insightful analysis, budgeting.
  • Be a good communicator and be able to build excellent relationships with key stakeholders across our Brand and Group finance teams, and the head office systems and business information teams. 
  • You have excellent attention to detail and the ability to deliver accurate work within challenging deadlines. 
  • You thrive in a fast paced, busy environment. 
  • Professional and discreet when dealing with confidential and sensitive information. 
  • Experienced user of Microsoft Excel; Knowledge of Google Suite, CODA Financials or Oracle would be an advantage. 
  • Having a track record of developing and improving financial controls, challenging existing processes.
