If so, Openreach is seeking a Finance Manager - Fixed Assets Controller to join our London office on a permanent basis, offering flexible hybrid working.

This role holds significant importance in financial reporting and reports directly to the Financial Reporting Controller within the central finance team at Openreach. With Openreach investing approximately £3bn in Capex annually for the nationwide rollout of full-fibre broadband, the Fixed Assets Controller will be responsible for comprehensive financial reporting and control, encompassing Openreach's Capex performance and fixed asset base.

To succeed in this position, a deep understanding of the risks, assumptions, and drivers impacting business performance is crucial. This knowledge will facilitate effective communication of Openreach's underlying Capex performance, aligned with the commitments outlined in the Medium-Term Plan (MTP). You will also verify Openreach's fixed asset balances and ensure ongoing appropriate accounting treatment.

You'll have the following responsibilities

Execute complex central finance reporting and analysis, connecting financial outcomes and KPIs to elucidate Openreach's performance promptly.

Ensure adherence to all pertinent accounting standards and assess the integrity of accounting judgments.

Identify opportunities and devise risk mitigation strategies to ensure Openreach achieves committed Capex performance, contributing to the Outlook process.

Oversee the management of Assets In the Course of Construction, aiming to reduce unregistered assets. Establish and operate financial controls for these balances.

Manage Work In Progress across business units to facilitate concise reporting on movements.

Conduct the annual asset verification (AVR) process, validating Fixed Asset Register (FAR) values for Openreach using both operational and independent financial data sources.

Perform the annual asset life review (ALR) assessment to identify triggers warranting a change in an asset's useful economic life.

Conduct impairment reviews, as needed, for asset classes listed in the fixed asset register.

Collaborate with BT Group finance and external auditors to agree on accounting treatment and recommendations regarding the AVR, ALR, and Impairment review processes.

Provide assurance regarding Capex-related costs charged to Openreach from BT Group.

Implement continuous improvement initiatives to enhance the efficiency and accuracy of Capex and fixed asset reporting.

You'll have the following skills & experience

Collaborative team player, adept at fostering accountability through a supportive yet challenging leadership approach, consistently meeting personal commitments.

A qualified accountant with strong technical expertise, capable of applying accounting standards effectively.

Comfortable engaging extensively with large volumes of data, conducting thorough analyses, and driving actionable insights.

Proficient in matrix-managing cross-functional teams for intricate, multi-phase solutions.

Demonstrated leadership and coaching skills, guiding team members and offering operational guidelines while possessing deep knowledge in specialised areas.

Leads, advocates, and effectively manages conflicting priorities, taking ownership of successfully delivering key finance programs across the organisation.

Sets agendas, identifies opportunities, and advocates for the highest standards of best practices, providing valuable insights into finance domains or specialised areas.
